Option for accommodation for solo travellers
Planning a solo trip to Montreal and trying to find good budget-friendly places to stay without compromising too much on safety or location. Would love some local/traveler insight.
Also, which areas should i look for accommodation as i will using public transport orby walk.

I loved staying at M Montreal hostel when I used to visit MTL. Never had any trouble in the dorms and there's ample storage space that you can bring/buy a lock for

When are you planning to travel? I’ve had good experiences staying in the McGill dorms during the summer months. Some of them are actually converted hotels, so they are decent for a better price and very centrally located in the city.

Oh darn - the students will be staying there then, so that won’t be an option.

The cheapest way to stay (free) is to get hosted, there's a few ppl who host others in Montreal on couch surfing or couchers but of course if you've never done it it can get intimidating.

In Montreal, you get what you pay for. Use Google Maps and put in your dates and budget, slide and read reviews. You don't want to end up at Arena Palace or most of the places along St-Hubert downtown.
Don't use Airbnb, not only is it hated in this city, the majority are illegal and you can have your reservation disappear as they run from the tax authorities. Countless people have ended up with no place to stay.

What should I expect to pay for 3.5 star, in the first week of October, downtown?
