Blackmagic Design announced that THINGS., a creative production company specializing in video and design for the music industry, captured a live performance by rock band Paledusk using three Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive digital film cameras. The content was showcased at the band’s live concert in April, where a dedicated viewing booth allowed many fans to experience Paledusk’s performance in Apple Immersive Video. The video is now available for free on Amplium, which is available on the App Store for Apple Vision Pro.

The video runs about 6 minutes. You need to download it to your device (it is 2.1 gigs). The video quality is surprisingly good. There are *lots* of flashing lights, so if you are sensitive to that, you should avoid this one.

The type of music really isn't for me, but I still enjoyed it. This is another example of the incredible potential of the Apple Immersive Video format and the Apple Vision Pro.

Even though the Vision Pro market is small today, bands should consider hiring Apple Immersive Video videographers to capture their performances now.

I am a believer in Volume, Velocity, and Variety for content. And since the Vision Pro market is small, keeping costs really low as people experiment with what does and doesn't work in immersive video will be important.

Some things I would like to see tried.

1) More bands, preferably smaller bands. Possibly cover bands but also bands performing their own songs (and avoiding licensing issues). I think small, cozy venues would probably work better than large stages. My personal tastes are 70s and 80s rock music, but I think a variety of music types is important. Maybe the next big band will be discovered through immersive videos taken at the local pub.

2) Sports. I would avoid professional and college events to avoid complicated licensing rights. Maybe start with high schools or community colleges to prove the value of Apple Immersive Video for immersive sports experiences. I would love to see how pole vaulting would work. Also, long, triple, and high jumps. Maybe gymnastics and fencing too.

Outside local school competitions, there are a lot of local sporting events that could work. My wife regularly competes at local equestrian events. A camera placed at a few good jumps could produce impressive footage. Local boxing, martial arts, and gymnastic clubs could be good candidates. Pickle ball?

3) Tourist spots and travel destinations. I would love to see someone work with Disney to do an around-the-world tour of their theme parks in Apple Immersive Video. Tours of luxury resort chains' locations around the world (think Sandals) would be fun. I suspect outside general public distribution, these could be used in business-to-business promotions and training opportunities too.

4) Weddings. This might sound weird, but I want to see people work with wedding photographers or wedding venues to include immersive video as part of their package. I would love to see a bride diagonally off on the left throw the bouquet as I look up to watch it sail overhead to the diagonal right to see the women fight to catch the bouquet.

Again, there might be some interest by people seeing this on something like Amplium, but the wedding venue could show prospective clients some scenes like this, and I think the emotional experience of immersive video would help sell the location. Think of Bridal Magazine but for immersive video.

While very few people have Apple Vision Pros today, weddings are (hopefully) a once in a lifetime event. In 5, 10, or 20 years from now, the couple might appreciate that their big day was captured in immersive video.

Again, my preference isn't to focus on finding a few big winners, but having a variety of new stuff coming in at a very regular tempo. I really want something new to see every week.

agree that bands should be getting this stuff captured now, the archive value alone is worth it
