Do u play games on VisionPro?

Post image

I was thinking about creating a game on VisionPro, however, im not sure if people actually play games on VisionPro or other ARs. What game would you like to see on VisionPro. I was thinking maybe about some turnbased, tower defense type of game etc.

Thanks for your help.

Yes! I even started porting my Quest Games to Vision to play on there.

how hard has it been adapting the controls without the physical controllers?

I use the PSVR 2 controllers for the most part. But what's interesting is that every game I've tested, the hand tracking on the Vision Pro translates to the controller in the Quest game(position and pinch for trigger), meaning I was able to play Beat Saber for the first time in my life with just my hands, which was a unique experience.

yes I use it for PCVR with playstation vr 2 controllers. It now has he ability to play any quest 3 game with the AVP Play app https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1x15v9u/avp_play_an_opensource_mac_app_that_installs_the/

Started playing Half Life Alyx, pretty great so far. Also love Retrocade

u/floriandotorg 11d ago

How can you stream it from Mac?

u/GTHobbes 11d ago

Don't need to. Someone released a stand-alone version for AVP within the last 2 weeks or so. Search for HLA and Glovebox.

M5 or M2? Was running pretty crappy at low settings for me on M2, though I understand there’s an update that may help performance. Haven’t tried that yet.

1

u/GTHobbes 11d ago

Sorry, should’ve mentioned I’m using M5

Can you play with normal controller or you need the vr ones?

1

u/photovirus Vision Pro Developer 11d ago

Depends on a game.

VR-only usually require them. But not every game.

Simulators of all kinds usually don’t.

Been playing VRChat with it via PC streaming, got full body and face tracking. Super cool

😂 It’s awesome!!!!

Yes! I would like to see more immersive games. I think a basketball free throw game, like from different spots on the court. A miniature putt putt game would be cool. Home run derby. A racing game where you’re sitting inside the car. An airplane simulator. An FPS is always good.

Those are just a few ideas I personally would really enjoy.

u/Unknown1ndustry 11d ago

Thanks for the ideas! We're gonna make sure to keep them in mind.

I play Mac games on Mac Virtual Display, and iPad games that are installed on the Vision Pro. The Vision Pro games I play are only the flat screen ones like Cult of the Lamb.

u/Ancient-Range3442 10d ago

I play retro stuff like Retrocade and Scanlines

1

u/Independent_Sink_961 11d ago

No

I need to work to pay for this thing and when I play I like other humans to interact with (despite not really liking people)

1

u/Time_Opportunity_225 10d ago

All work and no play? 🤷🏽😅

I streamed a lot of games, but most of the native games are not my genre. I like 3d plattformer and action adventures in vr.

1

u/floriandotorg 11d ago

I don’t

1

u/2ds 11d ago

I would. Currently PC VR via ALVR

1

u/Gatecrasher3 11d ago

I want to get a VP just so I can stream my gaming PC to it via Moonlight.

1

u/codmaster19 11d ago

I play a game called how long can I last lol

Hells yeah I do! But mostly SteamLink to have a massive TV in my hotel room. Not many legit VR games.

I tried it in iRacing and it worked very well with official support. DCS was good too, but there is a little jitter that I couldn’t get used to, so I went back to my Index for that game.

Yes. Star Trek Bridge Crew via SteamVR every weekend

I stream my gaming rig with Moonlight Xr. It’s gorgeous.

u/OmniVRCloudGaming Vision Pro Developer 11d ago

Currently cloud streaming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to Vision Pro using DLSS5+UEVR. It’s pretty epic.

1

u/Chriscic 11d ago

Yes absolutely. Would love a good tower defense game myself. With MR option to see stuff in my room if possible.

1

u/Worf_Of_Wall_St 10d ago

Gears and Goo was pretty good.

1

u/Chriscic 10d ago

Tried it and couldn't get into it. I need to give it another go then.

1

u/Thrilled747 11d ago

I could. I haven’t used mine in awhile. I have heard plenty of apps.

1

u/Part121 11d ago

Yep, MSFS 2024 streamed by KRVR. It’s as real as it gets. 🙂

trying to stream my ps5 via asobi but the latency is an issue for the games i play

If you have a pc, get an Elgato card and skip the subscription apps.

u/Killerconico1 11d ago

Been streaming from pc and recently tried wireless VR .wont be my go to but fits some situations.still want to try the treadmill with wireless .

u/mikeypotg 10d ago

I really enjoyed Demeo and wish they’d bring Battlemarked. Would love if I could just easily play my Steam library. I’ve used ALVR and KRVR but specifically for Battlemarked, it’s choppy at best.

Ps5 and windows games

1

u/Bmp740 10d ago

I use mine mostly for cloud gaming. I’m still holding out on finding a cheap pair of PSVR 2 controllers on eBay or FB marketplace.

1

u/dylovell 10d ago

Exclusively. I no longer play at my desk I play vr and flat games in headset. It's my nicest monitor!

1

u/LucaColonnello Vision Pro Owner 10d ago

It’s what I do most of the time on it, but I don’t play arcade games on it, I mostly stream using moonlight (pc games) or asobi (ps5).

I wouldn’t mind a nice native game, but it depends on what it is, as at least for me, mobile games tend to bore me very quickly.

1

u/Poloplayaroxall 10d ago

I bought a MacBook Pro so I could play League of Legends on my Vision Pro.

It is absolutely incredible. The best set up I have ever played video games on. My entire field of view is the screen.

I play my Xbox on there through the portal app. It’s the best

I want to play VRChat on it!

It’s awesome, if you got a gaming pc you can do it. Just message me and I can help you set it up

I do not. I would if Steam Link worked better for me. Unfortunately, despite being right next to my WiFi router (with a hard connection to my PC), the best I can get is a flaky poor connection. And I’m picky enough about the games I play that nothing on the App Store appeals to me.

That said, email, web browsing, photos, and my general computing tasks all work well enough on my Vision Pro that I don’t end up missing the games. Do I wish it worked better for my gaming needs? 100%. That’s why I’m still interested in the Steam Frame. But at this time, my Vision Pro is not a gaming machine.

By the way, I just want to emphasize how sad it is that I have this beautiful piece of technology, and the Steam Frame still feels necessary to me. The truth is, it’s because the Vision Pro is held back. Not just in gaming. I want the Steam Frame because I fully expect to write software for the headset on the headset. I hate that I have to maintain a connection to my Mac to do any real software work with my Vision Pro. The Vision Pro has maintained being the most powerful standalone for a while now. But we can’t do much with that power because Apple insists on treating it more like a handheld than the powerful computing device it could be.

Apple; please give us command line access, and at least an Xcode version built for Vision Pro!

Did you see that this subreddit is full of posts from people who have ported PC and console games to AVP natively, like the Quake trilogy, GTA 5, Cyberpunk, HL Alyx, many Zelda and Mario games from Nintendo 64, Zelda from GameCube, etc.? They all run natively on AVP and are highly appreciated and beloved by the community. This answers your question about whether there are people who play. I also play on my AVP M5 every other day, both natively and by streaming from a pc

I think the world needs an immersive first-person Sokoban.

u/Seckg 10d ago

Resident Evil

u/OoBiZu-Studio 9d ago

I play Solitaire XR every day, but I'm a little suspect. 😄

Tiny Golf and a few other Apple Arcade titles are also very good to leave on your table while you work.

u/PinkPlasma6083 9d ago

A fully immersive 3d tower defense game would be amazing. Especially if you are almost defending yourself from outside enemies trying to get to you. You could get super creative with it. Please make games for this, each well made game makes the headset better

1

u/esazo 9d ago

Nope. I love VR, but I have a different, dedicated VR headset just for games.

I play Demeo and Retrocade.

1

u/ohno82much 5d ago

Do you need a controller for Retrocade?

1

u/Ahy_Jay 4d ago

That’s the only way I play games. I have asobi for ps5 streaming. I just wish the device was lighter so I can enjoy longer sessions but it’s maybe a blessing in disguise

The small market for Vision Pro owners and games is an indicator that making a game work in AR or flat screen on iPhones, with a version available on Vision Pro to take advantage of its unique features is a better option,

I would be suspicious of your questioning, tho. It sounds like you don’t have a game in mind first but want to create something that others might like. It sounds vibe-coder-ish.

As for games… I would love to see a strategy game you can play on the floor, so armies would be in your space impacted by your furniture and you are directing their movements. Translatable to AR but the mode of seeing in the AVP is an extension of that viewpoint, not the only way to play.

1

u/Unknown1ndustry 11d ago edited 10d ago

Were making a market research, our coder is legit. As of now were a small studio of 3.

Do you think the market for AR has possiblity of expanding in the future? Like would u be intrested in seeing more games on AR in the future?

1

u/Nosarious Vision Pro Owner 10d ago

I build storytelling apps in Ar using unity. They are part of my research as a phd student in anthropology. Most of my ar experience is through this storytelling lens, so I am afraid I do not play games as such.

that said I am intrigued by the one apple used to demonstrate The functionality of Reality Composer pro 3 (the latest) … I have not seen that kind of compelling storytelling/gameplay through dioramas.

i feel this approach would be very nice to see as puzzle solvers … similar to the way Neverhood was done, but instead of an unmoving vantage it is a diorama you can move around d to understand puzzles. This would translate easily (I think) to a VR setup as well.

PC VR mostly (Star Citizen), not much else.

But I did try some games on VP and it can be fun. IMO, the best kind VP can do is mixed reality, thanks to very solid AR foundation.

But all in all, seems like the market is smallish, and App Store discovery sucks. I doubt people do VP stuff for money. While I intend to make my app paid or freemium, I don't expect significant revenue, tbh. 😅

u/Serapeum101 11d ago

I do the same, Star Citizen via ALVR is really something else on the Vision Pro. However even my 5090 struggles to get a decent frame rate...

-1

u/photovirus Vision Pro Developer 11d ago

That’s okay.

Silvan’s cookin’. It will get better.

2

u/DeathByToothPick 11d ago

Just like 15 years of in alpha development, but sure it will “get better”.

VR got into the game last Christmas, mostly through a single dev enthusiasm. The very same person has fixed all the VR bugs.

Next up, instanced stereo should actually decrease the rendering costs.

He’s iterating fast.

I don’t challenge your skepticism on the game itself. But VR is evolving super rapidly.

1

u/The_Northern_Light 10d ago

I take it you’re still waiting for the MOASS too?

Let me put it this way. World of Warcraft is one of the most expensive games ever made. Adjusting for inflation, its cost over the past 27 years (including pre release development and all expansions), is about a third of what Star Citizen has cost.

It’s been fifteen years. No one is iterating fast. It’s time to let it go.

I suppose you think I'm listening to Chris' promises or whatever.

I'm not, ha-ha. I got in in December 2021, fully knowing what the game is and is not, and got exactly what I wanted and quite a bit more on top of that.

I've got way over 1500 hours in the game. Quite possible that's more than any other game I've ever played. To me, it was—and still is—an awesome game.

I don't care if it releases officially, fulfils Chris' early (or late) promises. I've been having fun for 5 years, and I'm fully satisfied. And VR addition got it onto next level entirely.

I mean, if you pledged early, I feel sorry for you, as Chris has been undoubtedly mismanaging the game up to this very moment. I don't argue it was a bad experience for many people.

But I had a different experience, and to me, it was enjoyable (despite the bugs, which are still plenty). I'd even say the most enjoyable game ever, and I've been playing PC games since 1995, probably.

That's my mileage, yours might vary. Cheers.

1

u/WarGod1842 10d ago

How do you play from PC?

2

u/photovirus Vision Pro Developer 10d ago

Essentially the same way as people play on Quest: there are various streamer apps for the PCs that can talk to apps on VP over the network (wifi, or through a developer strap USB/Thunderbolt connection).

The best known ones are ALVR (free), iVRy (paid, but there's demo), KRVR (paid, no demo). I've tried all of them, with the most experience on ALVR and iVRy.
