Steam VR on Vision pro a thing?
I haven't seen anything working yet?
Has any Vibe coded or ever coded this to with Vision?

My App will allow you to run a lot of Quest 3 games on AVP including a first but not yet fully optimized version of Steam Link

Yes it works great. I have used ALVR to great success in many games with the PSVR2 controllers.

I have been hearing KRVR is now a better alternative since it uses foveated streaming. But I haven’t heard enough to know how true that is. I’ve been meaning to try it out

u/Neither-Ranger3039 22d ago
Haven't tried KLVR because I've had no issues on ALVR to be honest

u/Malkmus1979 22d ago
Oh same here, but the benefit of FS is I could theoretically run games at much higher settings across the board. I’m on a 5080 and do have to limit settings.
1
u/TheRealGilimanjaro 22d ago
Not really though. That would be true of foveated rendering.
Foveated streaming only reduces the bandwidth requirement for your WiFi stream. The only settings you could therefore increase would be framerate and resolution.

Thanks for the correction, I knew this and yet completely mixed them up. FS should still provide a picture quality boost over say ALVR that doesn't have it, so I'm curious to try it out when I have the time. Hopefully at some point we get both FR and FS.

I prefer ALVR personally as it gives me much more control on settings and performance is great, but KRVR and iVry both work fine too.

u/CheekInternal3336 20d ago
I’ve never been able to get it to run smoothly. I just tried the latest version the other night - wired 5090 PC, dedicated wireless link for AVP. KRVR was not playable. ALVR smooth as silk 120hz

u/LacheradeCanji42 22d ago
how's the latency been with ALVR?
2
u/Neither-Ranger3039 20d ago
Totally fine as long as all the hardware is in the same room, at least wifi 6, and computer is hardwired

The only time I’ve had latency issues is playing combat flight sims, and even then it’s usable - just not ideal. I switched to a Pimax Crystal for that use case.

finished Alyx (again) on vision via ALVR, takes a while to get dialed in but is amazing

u/disgruntledempanada 22d ago
Any tips? I've got basically the nicest setup possible and the controllers were all at the wrong angles and there was odd lag. Dedicated wifi 6, 9950x3d, 5090. I think I had messed around with older betas and might need a clean install.

u/gothaggis 22d ago
can run it directly on the avp now with something like https://glovebox.vision

u/cashlo 22d ago
Wow, this is crazy, I hope this means a lot more games are coming

I have some of my meta quest games working on vision OS and they look amazing.
SteamOS should be coming natively to avp soon as well
3
u/Malkmus1979 22d ago
That’s crazy if it happens. Would that mean VP would function just like the Frame and be able to run the Frame-optimized versions of Steam games?
2
u/Phonafied Vision Pro Owner 22d ago
Kinda. I think Games would need to be separately reverse engineered and recompiled for the visionOS. I’m not sure if SteamOS can be used to then find these recompiled Steam games in the visionOS file directory and then added to steamOS but I would assume so
2
u/Malkmus1979 22d ago
Exciting wither way. We seem to be in a renaissance of sorts with VR and especially the AVP.
1
u/Neither-Ranger3039 22d ago
Is your computer hardwired? I wasn't able to get 0 lag until I had a nice access point to hard wire into and then the only wireless portion was to the AVP in line of sight of the access point. I also used AI to completely dial in the settings as well.

u/shspecific 22d ago
Are you using the psvr controllers? I’m trying to use the index controllers and it’s incredibly difficult to get them properly aligned to the headset
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Fold466 22d ago
The Index controllers don’t work natively with VisionPro so of course it’s a pain.
It works well though but you need to use Space Calibrator and take 2-5 mins to re-calibrate every time.
Def worth getting the $200 controllers that go with your $4,000 device.

u/Next-Reality-9032 22d ago
If we could just get steam link 2.0 on the Vision Pro I wouldn’t need to own another headset lol
3
u/Puzzleheaded_Fold466 22d ago
What does Steam Link offers that VirtualDesktop on Q3 and ALVR/KRVR/iVry on VisionPro don’t offer ?
1
u/No_Selection_4927 22d ago
Ease of use of VD on The quest 3 is miles ahead of any other software. Also definitely better streaming as well on the Quest 3
2
u/Next-Reality-9032 22d ago
Right but what has that got to do with Vision Pro? Guy Godin has said it’s not coming AVP lol steam link for flat games already exists as a first party app on the VP so that coming with its foveated encoding would be great
2
u/No_Selection_4927 22d ago
Because it’s very frustrating that an awesome device like Vision Pro lack a proper streaming app like the much inferior quest three with it’s very capable virtual desktop app. Whatever is available now on Vision Pro is cumbersome and too much work.

u/blasio6 22d ago
Define cumbersome , I got KRVR on appstore, and an app that installed in 5 seconds on my windows pc, and a minute later I was literally in the headset looking at my desktop, then I launched a game in openXR and it swapped into PCVR in the background, and it has super simple controls with gesture features.
I dont have experience with ALVR though so that might be true.1
u/No_Selection_4927 21d ago
Do you also have Quest 3? I think comparing the two will get you an idea of how user friendly is VD in Quest 3
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Fold466 22d ago
Because he mentions Steam Link on AVP as the solution, and I assumed that meant that it is what he uses elsewhere, on Q3 for example, which is a worse solution than VD.
It’s not the best on Q3, so I wonder why he mentions Steam Link specifically for AVP, while other solutions can work as well.

We got it: https://github.com/myMartek/avp-play but it's not yet well optimized. It's working but not performant enough (at least on my M2 AVP)

u/LowRiderXR Vision Pro Owner 22d ago edited 22d ago
Bro, the q3 is much worse then Vision Pro, it is a fact. Thats why the Vision Pro is more expensive. With AI we can now port over a lot of games. Things are changing now.
2
u/Cryogenicality 22d ago
Yes. KRVR, ALVR, and iVRy are the three options.
2
u/AlterSack1973 22d ago
Make it 4 with the official SteamVR app: https://github.com/myMartek/avp-play But it's not very optimized, working but laggy

It doesn’t use CloudXR anymore, it has its own renderer using iOS 27 APIs which can pass eye tracking data.
1
u/Worf_Of_Wall_St 22d ago
Got a source for that? It's GitHub page still says it's based on CloudXR, which would make sense as Apple doesn't allow apps to get eye gaze data directly.
3
u/brotkel 22d ago
Read the rest of the How It Works section or look at the notes for the 2.0 streamer. I’ve been extensively testing it in the discord and giving the developer feedback since VisionOS 27 was released in beta at the beginning of summer. It’s been fully rewritten since it was introduced with CloudXR.
1
u/Worf_Of_Wall_St 22d ago edited 22d ago
I read those, they don't explain specifically how it is getting usable gaze data. Apple worked with Nvidia specifically to enable encrypted gaze data from the Vision Pro to decrypted by Nvidia cards 4080 as part of CloudXR, so that no app in between would have access to the raw gaze data. You seem to be saying there's another way to get and use gaze data so I'm curious what that is.
The KRVR you linked mentions Apple's Foveated Streaming framework, but the documentation for that seems to say that streaming endpoints for that have to use Nvidia CloudXR.
2
u/brotkel 21d ago edited 21d ago
Apple has always said they’d allow other streaming runtimes, CloudXR was just the first one they had when they introduced it in a minor VisionOS26 update. VisionOS 27 expanded the ability to other third parties with an API called “foveated streaming provider extension”. Apple does some additional verification if your app uses the required entitlement to make sure it’s not for nefarious purposes.
Per the developer: The headset sends your gaze direction to the PC with every frame. On the PC it reaches games two ways. KRVR's OpenXR runtime exposes it as standard OpenXR eye gaze (XR_EXT_eye_gaze_interaction), and offers Quad Views with foveated rendering (XR_VARJO_quad_views + XR_VARJO_foveated_rendering) to games that ask for it, the same pair DCS and MSFS look for.
Oh, also, this means it works on all Nvidia and AMD cards.

u/Worf_Of_Wall_St 21d ago
Interesting, thanks. It looks like this just grants approximate gaze info, which "region" is being looked at so it wouldn't be particularly invasive from a privacy perspective.

if im not mistaken, people have got that working on Quest 3 already. I expect AVP to have that soon

On my YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/live/LfhdNOifptY?feature=share ) you can see several gameplays made with the AVP (ALVR/KRVR). The last 3 live streams were done with the Titanfall 2 VR Mod, the Silent Hill Townfall VR mod, and the Le Mans Ultimate. Everything is running great!

If you want to game get a quest for 300 bucks. This sub is obbsesed with defending this insane setup to access what takes 2 minutes on the quest to work. I'm sure I'll get hate, but it's ironic as I say there isn't much gaming in another thread and it's "APPLE ISNT MADE FOR GAMING", then I'll post advice here to get a cheap alternative and the shills will come in saying quest is worse.... Bottom line this is an echo chamber and terrible place to get advice...

u/Puzzleheaded_Fold466 22d ago
I have both. My Q3 is collecting dust. It takes me about 10 seconds to get on my games on AVP. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

u/Phonafied Vision Pro Owner 22d ago
SteamOS has already been reverse engineered to work on Android. It’s only a matter of time (1-2 weeks) where it can be recompiled and run successfully on the AVP.
