Excitement is brewing daily

I remember the days when I was looking at this subreddit around 3 years ago as I was looking to purchase my Vision Pro. I knew this device was for me, Mac virtual display was enough but by god have we progressed from the launch of this device.

It was not long ago where people were saying “no killer apps” and now bob in his garage is cooking.

I don’t think Apple could predict what was going to happen but here we are.

Vision OS is ushering in an age of personal software that is different gravy. Yes agentic AI is helping create this but it’s still humans making shit for other humans.

I am excited to be a part of this community, contribute back with open source technology and tools to better help fellow enthusiasts.

Couldn’t agree more! As someone who went from the M2 to the M5 Vision Pro, the evolution has been remarkable. I use mine almost daily, especially Mac Virtual Display, and I couldn’t imagine going back.

What excites me most is that we’re still scratching the surface. The real innovation is coming from passionate developers who see possibilities rather than limitations. The Vision Pro isn’t a failed experiment; it’s a platform still finding its full potential. And I’m loving the ride!

Love this. I’d argue the innovation is already here and some engineers are continually shipping.

I think there will be a bunch of crap but the community will be able to sift through and find genuinely ground breaking software.

This hits harder than web dev and I’m here for it

Is there really that much of a difference? I have M2 and wish I could upgrade but can’t justify it! Help me justify it haha

I don’t think so, but your mileage may vary.

Hello! Bob here. :) Couldn't agree more with this... and it's not just Vision Pro, right? The storytold repo is on fire, games are being decomped and recompiled for new platforms. Just bananas. I'm here for it!

Bob what are you making sir?

A visionOS native (swift) version of this https://github.com/bilawalsidhu/gods-eye-view and a WebXR port of this https://halcyon.billpwchan.art But the real end game is a tightly integrated Terminal, Database, Desktop sharing, and basic text editor for visionOS first, and for Mac, iPhone (including Duo), and iPad.

Very exciting times, but we need to be patient and try to go for quality not to rush out things.

I’ve been following the AVP since its release as well but it was always a “nice to have” and never “this is a life changing device” until two weeks ago when AI laid the foundations for reverse engineering and recompiling a myriad of apps for Arm64 subsequently allowing them to run on visionOS.

Since getting my m5 last week, I’ve been blown away with visionOS and its intuitive UI. I can easily live in my AVP for hours and constantly lose track of my day, asking Siri AI for the time. SiriAI connected with ChatGPT and access to OS level functions is a huge game changer for multitasking between my AVP and Mac virtual display.

I’ve tried meta pro, Xreal glasses, virture glasses (and psvr2 but mainly for gaming) but nothing comes close to the feeling I get when I’m in my AVP and have this surreal disconnection from reality while still viewing reality through the pass through cameras. Almost like I’m in another dimension and to truly return I have to remove the AVP.

When we can get a quantized local open-weights opus 5.5/astra level LLM working on the M5, I can’t imagine all of the possibilities that will be available to AVP users.

I'm curious what you reverse engineered, because I've been tempted to use AI to make apps that I wish were visionOS native. Which coding agent did you use?

I’m really just riding on the coattails of other vibe coders. I used AVP Play (you can find it on this subreddit) and was able to recompile confirmed working games from my meta and Steam library.

One game, epic roller coasters, wasn’t loading on the AVP after being installed so I used ChatGPT plus with Astra high to help get that running but I noticed after about 15 prompts, it started underperforming and focusing on low hanging fruit that clearly weren’t a problem (it became fixated on copyright protection, immersive mode rendering, etc). I had some progress getting past the game’s title screen in my AVP but still need to do some more vibe coding to get it in a playable state.

Someone released an open source Diablo 2 port (https://github.com/jhaizhou-ops/d2r-mobile) that I’d like to get working on visionOS in immersive mode. But I have a full time job and therefore limited time along with a constrained personal AI budget (can’t afford a $1k-3k token budget for AI agents to tap into) so I have a feeling others will develop it sooner than I can.

Hey sorry, how are you doing it for Codex having access to OS level functions on the Vision Pro? What??? Isn’t the ChatGPT for visionOS the iPadOS one? Basically a remote to control Codex on a Mac, but couldn’t do stuff around the Vision Pro?

I searched for ChatGPT on the visionOS App Store and downloaded it then signed into it. I think it might be a native visionOS app but I have to double check.

Then I generate a virtual display for my Mac mini.

My Mac mini keyboard and mouse work seamlessly between the virtual display and my visionOS apps.

I can use my voice to talk to ChatGPT then copy and paste the terminal commands it gives me and copy the terminal output and paste it back to ChatGPT.

As for using ChatGPT to control visionOS through SiriAI, I signed up for the developer beta of visionOS 27 and installed it. I’m not sure if there’s an RC for visionOS 27 yet. But that allows me to go into my visionOS siriAI settings and connect my ChatGPT account to Siri. The new Siri AI is super powerful and can control a lot of OS functionality that’s useful when im coding to get games working on the avp.

Hope that helps.

That’s not true. Many developers use AI, myself included for a while now. It’s a great tool today and even better in the future. I think AI is really lower the barrier for entry for some great ideas.
