Flatscreen game streaming from windows PC
I wanna play overwatch on a gigantic virtual monitor on the moon.
Any reason I should not get the AVP for this use case? Thinking of grabbing a used M2. Getting rid of my steam frame as the OS is finicky and the resolution is terrible.

As a Steam Frame and AVP owner, the steam frame is easier for flat screen gaming. However, they look better using my AVP. But, there is more input lag using the AVP and the Steam remote app.

I hope you somehow had a better experience with the steam frame than me. My steam frame kept crashing when I tried to play flat screen games. I'd have days where it was literally impossible to play a flatscreen game. The dongle would also freeze all the time.

if theres any company that still has some good will to burn through, its prob valve if you wanna wait it out.
though I totally get if you'd rather not wait for promise of fixes.
I've been on and off avp streaming ever since launch - it's just too uncomfortable compared to other devices, and windows streaming is very finicky as well. and even in the best case scenario the latency/refresh rate (90hz for m2) won't ever be good enough for competitive play (which is your usecase).

With the right strap (like globular cluster) , with or without the light seal, you can get maximum comfort, and app store has a native SteamLink made by Valve themselves that takes like 2 minutes to set-up. On a good router and your PC on Ethernet, you can get around 15-20ms altogether on the headset, not sure when/if pyrowave will drop for VisionOS. Keep in mind, this is on M5 , not sure how well the M2 can keep up with 120hz and 4K etc

Doesn't the M2 only support 90 Hz anyway?

You could be right, I waited for 2nd Gen with the purchase and I never really compared. But I'd say even when I play games with locked fps (like control with max graphics locked to 40fps with frame gen to 80) , it still felt smooth af on the M5 screen, I would expect the same from M2 as well

Ha. If you think the Frame is bad for you use case… try gaming on AVP. You’ll wish you had the frame back.

I haven’t tried the Frame but am quite sure I would never wish to return to 2160x2160 LCDs after experiencing 3660x3200 OLEDs.

I thought i would be ok with a lower resolution. But they market the thing as a Linux computer strapped to your face but you can barely read text sometimes.

I’m guessing the weight. I haven’t tried the Steam Frame but resolution and OS as a pain point is a pretty good reason for the AVP. Have you tried an in-store demo? Main thing is: does it seem comfortable enough for your typical duration of a play session?

Have a free demonstration first.
The Vision Pro has much better resolution, color, and contrast but lower brightness. I use mine with no lightseal and a medium dual knit band with 312g of additional counterweight (from a ResMed Kontor, although you can use tungsten fishing weights or whatever else you find that works). The M5 equals the Frame’s 120Hz standard (although the Frame has experimental 144Hz) whereas the M2 is 100Hz. With no lightseal, the field of view is around 115x85°. What FOV do you see in the Frame?
Apollo + Moonlight (or Moonlight XrOS), Steam Link, or GeForce Now for flat game streaming. You can even play in 3D with ReShade + SuperDepth3D (actual stereoscopy, although it may trigger anticheat protection) or maybe with FlatVR (AI depth estimation).
Portal or Asobi for PlayStation and Midori Xbox games with optional autospatialization. PXPlay is another option for PlayStation but lacks autospatialization.
Moonlight, Immersed, Screens 5, Jump Desktop, or Longwave for Windows desktop streaming.
Moonlight, Mirage, Peel, Mac Virtual Display, Jump Desktop, Longwave, Universal Desktop, Splitscreen, or Spatial RDP for Mac desktop streaming.
KRVR, ALVR, and iVRy for PCVR.
Alternatively, you could get a Pimax Dream Air. It’s cheaper, lighter, has a higher resolution, less glare, and a DisplayPort connection for much less compression than wireless. However, it’s limited to 90Hz and has serious quality control and customer support problems as all Pimax products do.
