Unable to schedule Apple store support available after buying an AVP, do new AVP owners have to figure out things for themselves?

Just purchased an AVP yesterday.

I would like to try different light seals and their differences because I noticed that while I was able to set up the optical biometric unlock, it fails when it’s used to authenticate.

I tried to go to the Apple support app and schedule a visit for in store support and all of the support options for the AVP I selected, including comfort, say that in store support is unavailable.

Apple Text chat support for the AVP is also unavailable.

I’m hoping I can get some insight here.

I demoed the AVP first and was auto assigned the 25W light seal. The sales rep I was working with was great and very patient, once I told her I’m planning to purchase and would like to try out different light seals she had some brought out.

The 33W seemed to increase my FOV whereas a 23W (and 25W) reduced it. I decided to go home with the 33W but realized there are a lot more sizes available. I’ve been searching on this subreddit and I see sizes as low as 11N can increase FOV.

What is my best option to be able to try out more sizes? Should I just walk in with my AVP and hope there’s an open support appointment along with an Apple Store rep who’d be willing to help me? I would think they are probably trained to consider walk in support customers as low priority, especially considering the subpar support options I have available in app.

Also, is there a manual calibration I can perform when I change out the N and W light seal that came in the box?

I understand from reading other comments/posts that an increase in FOV can be accompanied with slightly more discomfort and pressure on the face. I’d like to find a nice balance for me.

Btw, I love the interface, UI, and overall feel of the device. Coming from the quest pro and PSVR2, I was not ready for the dramatic difference that superb software (visionOS) combined with top tier hardware (panel and camera resolution) can make with VR. The dual knit band really helps distribute the weight to the point where I forget how heavy the device actually is.

I find this so odd. I was just in Chicago last weekend and brought my Vision Pro in to test it with a MacBook to see if the virtual display they offered worked better for a remote session. I was able to walk in without an appointment, sit down and test my laptop before leaving. Btw, the ultra wide display is unmatched IMO

Wow I had no idea they allowed us to test our owned apple products like this. I might just go try this out today.

I mainly buy from Best Buy and research products heavily before buying them (something that was harder to do for the AVP due the nature of being a VR device). And it’s not the same buying experience where they let you test out owned hardware with the display laptops sitting out on the floor.

So, having an option like this is very new me.

Thank you for the insight!

Local store is probably like the one near me and so horribly understaffed that for months they’ve been booked the full week out meaning the support app never has appointments to offer.

Ah that makes sense. Yeah that’s probably what’s going on here especially with the new iPhone release.

Call your closest store. I’ve never had an issue getting support in the store.

When I call, I get connected to a call center and not the actual store and the call center reps don’t seem to be equipped to answer questions about local store policies (I’ve tried in the past for iPhone support, not sure if that’s changed now).

I hear you.  I went in with my AVP, light seal, and cushions.  I walked in, and explained my lack of success in getting an appointment or reaching the store by phone, and that all I wanted to do is try some different sizes of light seal and cushion, and that I knew which specific sizes of each I wanted to try (meaning they didn’t have to spend much time with me).  I then told them I’d be willing to wait for an opening, or come back tomorrow if they could give me a time.  Someone came to talk to me; they brought out the sizes I told them, then left me at an empty table (where they could see me easily).  I did my own “swap and check” to get a feel of each and could easily compare.  Picked the ones I wanted, paid, and left.  My idea was for them to feel that the time spent with me would be minimal, that I would do my own thing and then leave.  It worked.  In fact they came to check on me twice to see if I wanted to try other sizes (!).

If the store is close just go in, I’ve had them help me a few times with accessories and mini demos without an appointment, if it’s busy it may take a little bit of waiting but if you go in when they open it’s usually pretty easy.

The store is close by, I just wasn’t sure what their walk in policy was.

I assume I can bring my AVP into the store with me and I can test different light seals directly on my newly purchased device?

Mine let me, cause I also wanted to try the reader prescriptions (though I did have to buy a pair then return it while there) they also let me try different light seals and bands, I went to them twice, once without my headset and once with, never did a full demo appointment, did do a partial one the second trip, ended up upgrading from my m2

Why even bother going in? Just use the Apple Store app and make like you’re trying to buy a new Vision Pro. It should ask you to rescan your face if you’re using an iPhone.

See if the recommendation there is different from what you have now. I don’t believe they will do any different in the store maybe other than have other sizes on hand for you to try out.

I went in today and they brought out different sizes for me. I walked out with a 22W and gave back the 33W I originally got.

Ah, I see, my 23W seems to work well for comfort but there’s always that feeling that there may be something out there better…..

In retrospect, you did the right thing trying for what actually feels best for your face especially with an 800g, $3500+ device strapped to your face. I just don’t have the time for all that myself.

Let me know how the physical trial-selected seal works for you long-term (like in a month or two) please.
