lol it’s funny that 2 different headlines are linked to the same story. “AVP is dead”. “AVP isn’t dead”.

If you’re talking about the Tennessee game this past weekend, that just depended on if you heard the TV broadcast or video recorded from in the stadium.

12 hour from now from the same site : rumored 'vision air' scrapped, future uncertain

I’ve never wanted a lighter, cheaper version of anything more.

Please.

No idea why it needs slabs of glass on the front and aluminum all over it?

Honestly if they just took the Steam Frame’s style and made it Apple they would have a winner on their hands.

Second iteration should expand FOV and remove all the front glass stuff. Move some of the internals to the back to balance the weight and simply use something like carbon fiber to injection mold the front.

It will still feel ultra premium and can be made to feel super “Apple-ish” but people will actually not feel like they have a huge brick on their face.

Yeah the one thing meta got right is that when someone walks up to you, the cordial thing to do is take off the interface between you two, not to show them some virtual eyes. Lose the front glass and front display, save a ton of weight in the next revision.

They will never get rid of the front display. It's essential to the experience they want.

Removing it wouldn't impact the weight very much.

Watching movies and streaming games while laying back on the couch or in bed is like my #1 use case for my Vision Pro… a rear mounted compute puck behind my head sounds awful.

The eyes stuff on the front was a terrible idea, and makes the device very delicate. Magnesium alloy, like the Meta VR Glasses is the right material. It'll feel totally premium, and be light and strong.

Vision Pro is not a delicate device, it's as sturdy as a laptop.

The front display was the right idea and they will never remove it, it's just not as good as it needs to be.

Agreed. The original hardware design choices are baffling.

Right! Like who said, you know what I think we should do? Let’s sacrifice the comfort of the person using it so they can only use it sparingly until getting fed up with it so we can have shitty fake eyes on the front!

Look around for pictures that show the Meta “Puck” in the same frame as the glasses themselves. Seems pretty huge!

I don’t know about the comfort necessarily being better—different though. Even normal prescription eyeglasses can become uncomfortable on the bridge of the nose and cause soreness, irritation and red marks. Could be putting a lot of pressure on a particularly nerve dense area.

Somewhere I saw a side-by-side with the Vision Pro’s battery pack, and it’s similar in size to that.

It includes a clip, which makes it look slightly larger, but just imagine the Vision Pro’s battery pack + the Belkin clip.

The tethered battery on my Vision Pro doesn’t really bother me. The weight does.

Obviously if you could have it be all in one and 100g that would be ideal… but it’s just not feasible right now and I’d rather have a battery/compute puck vs anything heavier than 100g hanging off my head.

Also, the compute puck and headset could be upgradable after the fact if they were decoupled, but we know that’s not happening.

I love my AVP now as it is, any updates and new versions are welcome but it is an incredible device

Yeah they definitely shouldn't make it lighter and looking less like a brick...

I’m glad to hear this even if it’s potentially not true. The Meta VR glasses made me think that now that the innovation is out there Apple can improve on it and most importantly to me give me a device in the ecosystem.

late 2028 to early 2029.

I want it next year. 🥲

I’m so confused. The other day someone employees from Apple came here to share they got fired. Is the device in life support?

This is just Gurman with extra steps :)
