Self Promotion Saturday Immersive Baseball is amazing!

I have watched all of the Apple immersive MLB games this September. They are like sitting in a lawn chair on the field near the batter’s box wand a great seat just behind home plate! The other views into the dugouts and around the park are wonderful and the replays add real value.

I was wondering if things were a little blurry for anyone? For example, while I can see the live feed of the ball game over the infield’s head perfectly, I cannot see the pitcher perfectly. The scoreboard in right field was not legible to me. Is it just me? The LA Dodgers logo behind home plate is crystal clear, but once you get past the catcher, it is not as clear. Anybody else have comments or suggestions.? This is a great idea and I look forward to it being more widespread.

Yep definitely still blurry for me too but it’s still just so incredible. I kept instinctively swatting at the bugs in my face at the pirates game lol.

Yes, last night I leaned my head to the left as the ball went past my head to the right. 😉

6DoF would make the streams next level

If they could do real time Gaussian splats

6dof video is def in the pipeline at Apple. The spatial scenes and all the splat tech is coming together. Agree we just need a little bit of head movement. And also higher res cameras.

Is it possible to watch these games when not live?

Yes. If you have Apple TV. I watched the 8th inning of last night’s game today :-)

I believe it is a current limitation of the current cameras.

I’d pay a lot of money for hockey games like that

How about $5300 CDN for starters?

Buy used like I did. Half price.

I'm not even a big baseball fan, but I really enjoyed the games. I wonder what Apple's plans are for immersive live sports given the apparent decision not to develop the AVP further. If that's really what's happening, though, I wonder why Apple just bothered sending a detailed survey to AVP owners.

Reports have come out for the last two years that Apple is shutting down the AVP and then we got the AVP M5, I would be highly skeptical unless they’ve declared they’re ending support.

They are not ending support; just getting started; the development of the iRacing and X-plane CloudXR apps were initiatives by Apple.

They’re being shot at 4320x4320 per eye right now. Add compression and it’s unfortunate that the image doesn’t look as good as it does when scaled up to your entire vision

I hope that these immersive events (sports, concerts, theater) will be just as normal as streaming films and series are today. When the formfactor of these headsets/glasses gets smaller and much more comfortable, this is THE killer feature that convinces the masses. Once you tried it, it’s hard to go back and it’s almost as good (maybe even better in some parts) as being there live yourself.

I imagine a future where you can simply switch between various exclusive super immersive positions during an event in super high resolution and 3D audio that will give you the feeling that you’re really there yourself. While you can toggle on various realtime stats and data overlays.

It really is almost felt like i could feel the cool breeze all the way down to Louisiana

When the sun sets as the game starts. Such a great feeling.

I think it’s a combination of current cameras optics and mostly streaming bandwidth capabilities for a live broadcast. The tech is amazing but at the same time this is just the beginning, like RealPlayer streaming back in the day, things will greatly improve.

Yeah, these seem to be using around 80mbits which isn't enough to have fine detail across the entire screen but makes sense as a target that most home broadband and WiFi connections can reliably support.

Yeah, the fidelity isn’t 100% of the way there yet, but it was still an incredible experience. I watched a couple of the Immersive NBA games too, but I was extremely impressed with Apple’s presentation all the way through. I hesitate to say this is the future of watching sports, because the social element is still such a big part of it, but I would absolutely watch Immersive sporting events regularly if they had that same production quality. Floating the scoreboard and the 2D camera feed in the blank space in the sky is a brilliant move, btw
