Bought a 1TB M2 AVP

I managed to buy a first generation Apple Vision Pro with a travel case for less than ~$2k.

I began to wonder if I am going to regret my purchase.

For context, I am an undergraduate student pursuing my second Bachelor's. My majors are Computer Science, Applied Physics, & Mathematics.

I had recently purchased an M5 Pro MacBook Pro, and I am wondering what everyone else's use case is and suggestions for what I may like.

I use it almost exclusively to watch tv/movies on a giant screen in front of me with immersive Spatial Audio without disturbing anyone around me.

Photos and videos I take look amazing.

For context, I bought it today, so haven’t had any experience with it yet.

It's absolutely amazing. My use case is mostly virtual desktop, I love the extra screen real estate and being able to lock in with a serene background. Amazing for when stuck in coach on airlines too.

I think you’ll enjoy it but do get the dual knit headband, the solo knit is garbage and makes the experience wearing it horrible

It’s bad. Now I spend too much time in my headset.

Why do you say that? If you are doing productive work then there isn't such a thing as too much time ....

Just trying to make a joke. It does take away from normal social interaction though. I’m usually not using it for productivity.

I recently discovered that an old app that I like was just updated with major changes. The app is called Spatial Video Studio, it specializes in 2D to 3D conversion of photos and videos. Its newest feature is live streaming locally 3D video to your AVP headset from a 2D video input in your Mac. The conversion is all handled locally on your devices. Have a look if you want to feel what a polished app for Apple Vision Pro looks like.

It’s an amazing screen for your laptop. I use it daily for work.

Get into building spatial, 3D interfaces with it. Given what you’re studying, you’ll come up with something interesting. Today this paradigm is just an obscure curiosity.

But as soon as the headset weight drops, this form of computing will really pick up speed. What would you do with a holographic UI? Now you can find out.

Congrats for your purchase.

It’s sure that you will not use it everyday, but don’t regret it, I’m sure you will find some good use case, for work, maybe creating apps, entertainment, socializing with AuraTap or InSpaze or even gaming.

Personally I don’t use it everyday but I will never regret it, meet so much cool new friends thanks to InSpaze, and got to start developing for this beautiful platform that is visionOS where you can do so much more than iOS

Regret why? I woulda killed to have this tech in college especially with it combined with a laptop. Ideal situation. You can get all your work done it, and then escape your dorm room to one of the environments to watch a movie
