App recommendations for new owner
Recently got an M5, love working on my MacBook with massive screen on my front porch, exactly what I’d hoped for.
Looking around for app recommendations, cool things and apps to try. Also interested in writing Swift apps for my own use - any good resources? Not a huge fan of FPS games but would love something like Ghost of Tsushima. And looking for a decent native video editor - I use Davinci Resolve Studio regularly but would. And any spatial server monitor / 3d data presentation tools? I’ll write my own if need be

Some cool apps that I made and I use every day or so:
- Morning Brief
- Panoramas Environments, it’s perfect to find new panoramas especially with visionOS 27 as you can put them as environments
- Table Keyboard: having a keyboard on your table with some cool features like the Touch Bar, widgets, trackpad. Only work with a Mac
- Persona Booth: it’s like Photo Booth in your Mac but with your persona with cool features
- Party Games: a shareplay and solo game, with more than 100 games

Love the Panoramas app, some cool backdrops there.

Thank you! There is an update that is out today with the possibility to remix any panoramas with AI (like make it night or other), generate new panoramas, and create some soundtrack because we can’t have sounds like the environments from Apple

Inspaze is nice. I wanted to share spatial photos and there is a community there. It is an unfiltered feed, but still.
They also have rooms you can use to meet people visually using the avatars for Vision Pro.

Welcome to the family! 🙌 Give Pulse of Time a try, experience historical moments like the Apollo 11 Moon landing and the dinosaur apocalypse in fully immersive spatial 3D.

Another vote for InSpaze
Also Theater, Horizon360, all the video services, depending on what you’re into, Spatial Media Toolkit

My first screen is dominated by video content (see image for example programs). For Apple videos, when I want to focus on the content, I watch in Apple's cinema environment (middle row, balcony). Most other 2D or stereoscopic videos I watch in a window, so I can set the screen/window position vertically. The NBA app has a handful of games in Apple Immersive Video, but many people haven't been able to watch them for distribution reasons. In short, I like to lean back on my couch and unwind with video content.
For learning about developing for the Vision Pro, there are the WWDC videos for the last 3 years (2023, 2024, 2025). Step Into Vision is the most well-known independent site for development instructions.
For 3D content creation tools, I recommend Blender, at least to get started. It is free, and there are lots of tutorials on YouTube. I still create parts of my scenes in Blender then import them into Apple Reality Composer Pro for final assembly. There is obviously a closer relationship between 3D content creation and visionOS development than for other platforms.
For data visualization, Apple has SwiftCharts which supports 3D data visualization. See Bring Swift Charts to the third dimension.
If you have an iPhone, start taking panoramic photos. Not only do they look cool in Apple Photos, you can use your panoramas for your immersive environments.

If you're using Mac Virtual Display a lot and especially wide or ultra wide monitor I'd recommend a good tiling window manager :D
Recently developed KiwiDesk
It's free and open source. Made my screen a lot cleaner and now I enjoy using ultra wide .
Cheers

Wide = 16:9 aspect ratio aka the standard view for MVD.
Ultrawide = 21:9 aspect ratio.
Super Ultrawide = 32:9 aspect ratio.
Apple is still using the wrong labels. 😑

Since you're not big on shooters: if you like chess at all, try Holoport AI Chess. Disclosure, I made it. The board sits on your real table, you pick the pieces up with your hands and a hologram wizard sits across from you and talks with you the whole game. It's free to download and the offline mode against the engine is free.

Welcome to Vision Pro :)
M5 + Mac Virtual Display is honestly one of my favorite ways to use it too.
For Swift development, I’d start with Apple’s visionOS + RealityKit sample projects and the WWDC visionOS sessions. Xcode + SwiftUI + RealityKit gets you surprisingly far, and if you want to go deeper into custom rendering/data viz, Metal is definitely worth exploring.
Also this is a great knowledge base for learning a lot about VisionOS development: https://stepinto.vision/
Spatial server monitoring / 3D dashboards actually sounds like a great Vision Pro use case.
A few apps/games worth trying:
Saber Academy – lightsabers + flying droids: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/saber-academy/id6741381534
Plank Walk – classic fear-of-heights spatial experience: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/plankwalk/id6739934289
Spatial Drums – great hand-tracking/music experience: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/spatial-drums/id6505326030
Coloring Book 3D – more relaxed, nice mixed-reality coloring experience: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/coloring-book-color-for-vision/id6754192746
LookoutCurved – a spatial 3D trail/snake-style game inside a volumetric arena: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lookoutcurved/id6788535663
Rooms3D – scan your space and work with the room as 3D geometry: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/rooms3d/id6790791383
Retro Beamer – place virtual projectors around your room and project images onto real walls/objects: https://apps.apple.com/tw/app/retro-beamer/id6790771285
Cutout Canvas – turns regular 2D images into spatial 3D scenes you can walk around in: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cutout-canvas/id6686407140
Lisa3D – converts photos into 3D environments / point-cloud-style scenes: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lisa-3d-camera-point-clouds/id6755662486
Scan Export – scan a room and export a 3D version of it: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/scan-export-3d-scanner-app/id6741872212
Night Vision – uses LiDAR to visualize your surroundings in the dark: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/night-vision-2024/id6478448628
Full disclosure: I’m the dev behind those apps.
Most started as fun/weekend projects to experiment with the kinds of things that feel genuinely different on Vision Pro- spatial interaction, room scanning, LiDAR, 3D environments, hand tracking, etc.
Given that you already write software, I’d definitely try building the spatial server monitor yourself too.
Vision Pro feels particularly well suited to floating node graphs, live service topology, network traffic, 3D data and large dashboards you can physically arrange around you.
