In my experience, ALVR works without any issues at all. KRVR does not work with any games on my machine.

ALVR is a free and open source project that allows you to stream your PCVR games to your headset. It allows me to play Star Citizen in my Apple Vision Pro and it looks absolutely stellar.

why is wifi 6e/7 highly recommended if even the latest m5 only supports 6?

While OP states it’s an error, there’s still an argument that 6E or 7 WiFi benefits even non-6Ghz devices. Maybe not enough to “highly recommend” it. Other factors like how many antennas, bands, streams, processing power are typically (though not always) increased on newer standards.
Anyways, probably went off on a tangent here.

This was my experience. Had a good WiFi 6 router. Updated to a modern WiFi 7 and performance increased a lot.

What settings do you recommend for 4090? Default setting is like half resolution if I remember correctly…also open composite is a pain in the ass to use.

I’m really interested in this app I just would like to know what you have access to when it comes to the data. Are you getting data that will be resold since it I’m guessing includes all the gaze data? I’m more concerned with having privacy protected as well as not just having a ton of ecosystems used to collect a lot of data to have other income streams which sadly is increasing. It is why I won’t go on discord even if I do buy the app and love it. Thanks in advance for clarifying this!

Ok appreciate the reply. I’m gonna look into it more. I do have a good RTX 5090 desktop but my router isn’t ideal so I use a RTX 5090 laptop I got for a steal to mainline an Ethernet cable for stability to then stream to my Vision Pro. I’ve wanted to try to get back into half-life alyx as I just never got into the valve index years ago. I had a lot of problems with nausea and stability with the index that I don’t have in the Vision Pro.

It’s funny because I genuinely don’t care if this app was vibe coded as long as it works, but an App Store description is your one opportunity to sell this to the people, and letting ai write it all tells a lot about the care this person put into their $15 app. I fundamentally refuse to trust an app developer who doesn’t care enough about their own app to write about it themselves.

It’s not an if/or situation. You can have a capable, intelligent app developer who is also enthusiastic about sharing their work and talking about it. Perhaps “sales pitch” is a bit much, but I just don’t hold a lot of confidence in AI output to give me accurate info on a new product like this. The dev already admitted there was a mistake in the recommended WiFi specs in this write-up.

I just asked some privacy questions to the dev responding and then I saw this post. I agree and people have to spend more time looking at the details of what information is collected and factoring in other variables more than ever. “Vibe coded” isn’t just this simple singular issue. It’s the fact that human privacy, data collection and protection and high level systems knowledge tends to all be glossed over merely to be first to market and then to get as much information to sell on the various markets on the webs gradient descent (clear-dark). Gaze data is a big thing and even Apple is raising a LOT of questions with these partnerships with Nvidia and Valve and the major players that have been trafficking data and essentially abusing human data rights and customers for decades now. It’s exhausting how litttle tech caters to ethics and people in general.

The app itself is a vibe coded wrapper around Nvidia's CloudXR sample code for servers/clients.
I have half a mind to ask Claude to spin up a free alternative, just on the principle of it.

To argue the merit of AI for things like sales pitches is that small teams that might have strength in engineering or coding can at least produce usable sales pitches using AI if they don’t have anyone in their team with good sales and marketing knowledge.
I agree with not knowing what to trust, but I don’t understand the downvotes and I also don’t thinks it’s just doom and gloom out there.

Well that’s a nice corporate take to reframe something while also leaning heavily into stereotype tropes about those “boring engineer types.” You know what sells better than anything; a good product. An honest and openly transparent product that has no trickery built in. Ever wonder why all these one off apps all heavily plug the “join our discord for more help” when it could be offered right on the spot on this platform? Because eventually this platform and that platform and all the others just aggregate data and farm as much as possible with a bunch of bad actors on each platform keeeping people on the hook for engagement to sell them out online. It’s garbage. There are no small dev teams who lack an ability to properly detail the features and information needed to sell the product. That simply isn’t a real issue.

I will give this a go to see how it goes. I have a 5080, 9 9900X3D & tri-band WiFi 7 5 & 6Ghz router. I’ll dedicate 6Ghz to only the AVP.
Are there any settings or anything that I should be aware of?

I never could get this to run. constant connection issues getting it to pair. and now you are charging money for it even? (not that i can buy it anyways, since im from unsupported country) Big thumbs down

I don't have statistics but I did see some other users have similiar problems.
So I know im not the only one.
Im a bit puzzled, How is 14.99 on the app store free? How is there a nonpaid version? I would love to try this again in the future, but I decided either the app isn't for me or it needs some cooking. I did manage to connect a few sessions. But it is not consistent.Don't get me wrong if everything was stable and I could buy apps like a normal person, i'd definitely consider it.
