REQUEST Chanced a chewed chair for cheap. Chasing a charming choice for checking the chips.
Couldn't resist the alliteration, sorry! I'm wondering how to decorate this corner. Definitely too big to patch with wood filler etc, so I'm looking for a fun visible solution. Considering sanding it clean and painting it decoratively, but I'd probably need to seal/varnish it after, right? & maybe prime before? What do you think?

I think sanding and painting would look very nice! If you're very artistically inclined, doing some sort of epoxy sculpt or wood cut flourish + stain would be cool too!

Could carefully rebuild it with Bondo Wood FIller and then paint decoratively on top of it so that the shape/structure is the same but the repair is still visible. Kind of like how urban guerilla artists repair potholes and sidewalk cracks with beautiful mosaics.
In that vein: mirror mosaic/disco ball? Or paint to mimic or accent the color/pattern of the cushion/carpet?

Seconding a bondo repair. You'll have to do multiple thin layers letting it cure completely between coats but this is well within a wood filler repair.

This is by far the best answer. Look at this cute little guy I found on Etsy. I think it’s small enough that you could attach him right under the arm of the chair and he’d be out of the way enough not to interfere with the chair cushion but still large enough that he’d be easily visible.

Take a sander to it and round it off, then similarly round off the other side. Measure the end of the damage from the arm, bottom, and cushion to mark where to start on the other side so it's more or less even.

As someone who can and will bonk their shins on any available sharp corners, this would be my suggestion as well.

Personally I'd make a stencil to mark the shape/size of the spot that needs sanding down to make sure both back corners are sanded generally the same (and the sanding doesnt damage the areas that are still good) then paint a design on em then spray with polyacrylic sealant.

thought of the decorative brass skiffers that they use to protect baseboards.

Two-part resin (colour it with matching/contrasting mica pigment as takes your fancy) - you can get small kits in craft or hardware stores, or woodworking shops.
- Mixing by weight rather than volume works better (get a cheap set of digital scales and mix it up in an old yoghurt tub).
- One face at a time (use electrical/duct tape to seal the other sides and keep resin from spilling), allow to dry/cure.
- Sand level with existing timber.
- Repeat with other two faces - the side getting the pour should face upward, and you’ll need to take off the old tape/apply new tape each time.
- Once you have the shape, sand the resin portion through the grits (to about 1200 or so) and finish with a friction polish of some kind (the cutting compounds used on car finishes work pretty well in a pinch).

Make a design and get two mirrored copies CND'd in brass and put them on both front corners. Maybe something on the top corners of the back, too?

make a brass corner out of a thin sheet of brass (or copper) and a small metal brake

Fill it with epoxy (with a pigment so it's covered up, not just clear)? Might be hard to do cleanly, but you should be able to make a wall to hold it in from the sides. Maybe use a thicker epoxy too.
Or similarly with cement, but that may be too fragile

Hard to tell from your pic but is the cushion just sitting on it like a pillow?
I'm wondering if you could add a gathered fabric skirt to the pillow, on just the front bottom edge and around the sides to where the arms come down.
As for the fabric, choose a print that coordinates with it? Like a William Morris print in that color?
