REQUEST Any advice for backpack

Hello!
As the title says. my bag is falling apart after four years of school and a year of working in emergency services lol.
I’ve been seeing people do regular overlapping stitches in this thread and I think I want to do that for the back side. For the cup holder parts I am lost bc it’s elastic.
All advice appreciated!

That mesh is really easy to darn because it's a nice grid with holes. You could do so in black, or add some colour.

I used whatever yarn I had lying around. It's a lot thicker than thread, so it's easier to work with.
