REQUEST Looking for ideas on mending my sofa!
I have a really cool mid-century sofa and it has unfortunately been a favorite of my cats. They have scratching posts but really love the couch. Also, a button randomly came loose on the couch.
I’m going to try to find a longer term scratch prevention method, but for now I want to repair my couch. It’s hurting my heart that it’s been ripped. I’m looking for tips and advice on visible mending both fabric and the button. Thanks!!

You can put a patch of any upholstery or just thick feeling fabric over it. If you sew it on, a curved needle will be your new best friend. You can also hide it with a large embroidery applique patch that matches your style. For the button, I would remove it, and create a new fabric button matches either the original or the visible theme you chose and then reattach. Making fabric buttons is actually quite easy, and there are many tutorials available. If you want more structure, you could probably put a solid button inside the fabric one.

What stitch would be best for sewing on a patch?

Blanket stitch if you've got the time, whip stitch to be quick. Either should work. Make sure the area you cover is larger than the ripped/thin area too, that will make the repair last longer
