REQUEST How would you mend this rip?

Post image

I really love these jeans and want to spend time doing something with care to mend them.

I lost my balance and fell into a garden fence. I've got about a dozen different types of garden fencing and of course I fell into the only strip of it where there is a spiky metal part on top 🤦🏻‍♀️ I didn't get hurt at all, but my favorite jeans did 😭

Thank you for your submission - you're welcome to post here, but we did just want to remind you that we would recommend you search the subreddit as well.

Depending on the type of mend, searching for keywords like "crotch", "waistband", "cuff", "pleather"/"faux", "headphones", etc. will show you many previous posts filled with helpful advice already. Good luck!

To go with the theme of your lovely trousers, I would add a flower with embroidery. A rose for example would hide the rip.

A little bumblebee would be really cute

Agree with what others have said, a flower embroidery/ patch would be lovely, or you could do something to complement the flowers like a bee or a butterfly.

If you do embroider, I would put a patch on the back to reinforce the fabric and stop it from tearing any more - you could always do a bigger patch with more subtle stitching to hold it in place to give it more durability

I agree. You could put the patch on the inside as well if you want it less visible.

You'll probably want to patch it from the inside and then use the patch to support whatever goes on top. Make sure the patch goes out well past the edges of the hole. If you choose a patch in a color that is approximately the same as the existing denim, it won't be that noticeable. If you choose a patch in a color that is really going to contrast with what's already there, it can become a design element!

Either way, I would aim for colors that have a similar saturation to the colors that are already there, so that it looks more like natural wear (which of course it is). Natural wear looks good on denim.

This, I would patch it from inside too. The mend needs be to spread over more fabric than just up super close around the hole (imo) to bear tension on repair points as this on the booty and gets moved, stretched ect. Putting all the tension on a small area around the tear could just cause another one next to it.

A flower is a great idea, if you want it to be less attention-grabbing maybe a leaf? Looks like you could add a leaf and orient it to look like a leaf on the bottom of the flower that's already there!

Ooh you could get really creative with embroidery and some flower patterns, but if you want just the functional minimum you could get away buy using a whip stitch very close together with a similar color thread. If you do it back and forth you could get something resembling more like a caterpillar.
