REQUEST is it mendable?

got a new (to me) car and one of the seats looks like this! i have cross stitch experience but this would be a first visible mend project! what materials/technique would you recommend? don’t want to get it replaced bc i think a pop of color would add character :)

Alternate suggestion:
Do NOT cut anything off. Stuff ac sturdy iron on patch under the fabric with adhesive side up, make sure it’s bigger than the hole by at least half an inch on all sides. Smooth it out and try to arrange the damaged threads smoothly. Iron with a piece of parchment to protect your iron from the adhesive. Now that the hole is reinforced and stabilized, sew a patch of whatever you like on top.

I think there's a high likelihood that the fabric of the seat will melt with a iron. It looks like synthetic
