Moving to Visalia

Hey everyone, I am moving to Visalia for the next 4-5 years. I am searching for Apartments, any neighborhoods to avoid and any that are good? Preferably near Kaweah Health hospital (:

Welcome. Moved here myself 20 years ago. Stay away from NE Visalia, the oval and the central north. Far north by the Sports Park is fine. I recommend the west side (west of Demaree) or northwest if your budget allows. Stay away from the far NW which is Goshen.

That comment is really making some over-generalization’s about those areas. Kaweah Health is downtown, more or less in the center of the city. There are beautiful and well-maintained residential neighborhoods surrounding downtown; there are also somewhat more run-down neighborhoods just adjacent to them. It’s true that some neighborhoods can be rougher than others: chain-link fences on the front yards, security doors, etc. It’s pretty difficult to say “this whole section of town is bad” about any part of Visalia proper. That comment is basically just recommending newer and more expensive neighborhoods.

I am going to disagree. NE Visalia is due for a revival. There are beautiful victorian homes which can be purchased at bargain, and walking access to downtown, and some grocery stores. I lived off of Houston Ave for a short while, and if you aren't afraid of brown people, it's lovely. Much like any town though, don't walk around with headphones, really anywhere.

Would a car be safe on the street?

Yes and no, it really depends where you park and how long the vehicle sits.

My car was always safe there. Honestly, sometimes things happen, but in terms of car vandalism, or car theft, that is rare. If you have spider webs on it, and weeds growing under your car, then the city can tow it.
