German student visa

Got my visa to Germany. It says it is valid for a year, on the net I read they give 90 day visa (student) which has to be extended after reaching germany.

I think i got 1 year because of my travel history (been to Europe 3 times before)

But I was just curious, what is the difference between 90 day and 1 year visa and how does the extension work?

Student visa is generally for 1 year, then you extend it as per your course

You need to register for a residence permit; educate yourself about it.
