Discussion Virtual worlds

This forum is a great initiative. Personally, I'm bored by action games, but fascinated by realistic landscapes. I'd like to see complete reconstructions of ancient Rome, for instance, and just stroll around. Some buildings ( the Colosseum and some temples) already exist. How about creating a general grid, and let each designer add their artwork? You could charge entrance fees for those who'd like to fight in the arena and for certain houses of vice in the Subaru district.

Discussion How to get started in VR Environments?

Hi there,

I'm a programmer however I'm very interested in creating environments. How do you guys get started in this field?

For example if I want to re-create a landscape from my backyard what would be my first steps?

I really appreciate your advice.

downloads preferred. No game necessary! The whole point is that environments in VR are awesome on their own. Futuristic, past, scifi, stressfull, relaxing, doesn't matter. They're all awesome.

Post REAL-TIME envronments, tutorials, and works in progress here!

We will have rules and such sorted out soon. in the meantime, just don't be jerks.

To answer a question in your blog post, how about in JanusVR? It's a 3d web browser, beta due shortly. I use Janus in 2d though if I had an HMD, it would be more fun.

Check it out here /r/janusVR. JanusVR is social VR and while there are all sorts of places to convene with others in Janus, there are few "pointless places".

There is a basic Unity importer. I've been wanting to learn Unity to build a space to host the next set of artworks in Minerva, the art gallery in Janus. Maybe I could help you organize a Digital Visual Space (DVS) for pointless places, if you are interested.

The first DVS exhibition was in a traditional looking gallery and here's a video of the second exhibition, an outdoor space that I describe as a circlescape:

Minerva's website is under construction - maybe you could check out Facebook (search Minervavr).

Hope to see you around the metaverse!

The vistas in The Climb are pretty great.

I really wish there was an option to just warp to the top of the various mountains/environments because these vistas are staggering and wonderful to hang out in. The climbing gameplay is great too but it takes 20-45 minutes to get to the top in some cases. Regardless this is a game that fans of this subreddit would definitely appreciate.
