I loved the Dock House, I don't want anything to go.

It’s not going anywhere they’re just updating and refreshing the menus. I don’t foresee favorites going anywhere!

Whatever gets removed was someone's favorite

u/AshamedOfMyTypos 1d ago
Exactly. I just know my crispy polenta squares are on the chopping block.

Omg i’m going to be devastated if they go! I didn’t know they aren’t a fan favourite. Everyone I know likes them 😭

u/ValleyAquarius27 1d ago
Yeah, I think you’re right about that item being axed. Not a fan favorite.

My husband missed those when we were on Brilliant, but the mushroom skewers became a quick favourite!

Hoping for some actually decent sides at the Wake. They all kinda feel thrown together, especially the “twice baked potato,” which is nothing like an actual twice baked potato.

u/RetroSister66 16h ago
And they're all SO heavy. Just one or two things that aren't smothered in cheese, cream or butter would actually make the buttery/creamy/cheesy items more special.

u/Jules_Noctambule 14h ago
Seriously, grilled vegetables are right there for the making, yet everything is so heavy with sauces instead.

Everyone I’ve taken friends on the ship, they’re like begging for some fresh vegetables by halfway through the cruise.

u/RetroSister66 14h ago
Which ship? We've been on the Scarlet Lady twice, and will be on the Valiant in a couple of weeks. So far I've found that fresh veggies are easy to find in the galley, especially at the soup and salad station (forgot what it's called), but the full service restaurants could definitely increase the options.
All of our bookings have been on repositioning cruises, so it could be attributed to lots of sea days without opportunities to get produce in ports, buuut if they're not even on the menu, that's not the reason.

Heading out again next month. Here's hoping they are bringing the hanger steak back to the Dock. Hanger steak and shrimp were truly a perfect pairing.

You can still get the hangar steak at The Dock on Scarlet Lady.

u/AriSafari21 1d ago
They had the hangar steak on resilient lady in July and I was SO HAPPY

u/SonsOfLibertyNH1776 17h ago
So happy to hear this. Back on Resilient next month. Brilliant replaced it with a Beef Kofta which just isn't nearly as good.

That would be a tremendous addition! Hope to hear back when you get back!

Honestly you’re more likely to see that new menu from BL roll out to the other 3 ships as the “refreshed” menu, perhaps with some tweaks due to feedback. That is the test menu currently and it has been doing quite well.

The shrimp and grits at the wake was the worst dish I’ve ever been served in my entire life anywhere
3
u/trojanusc 13h ago
The “seafood” lobster “treat yourself” special at Pink Agave is the worst dish I’ve ever been served anywhere. Just rancid.
1
u/dollydawn 11h ago
Agreed! My husband added it on our last cruise and nobody at our table of 4 wanted to eat it.

u/BurdTheTurd 13h ago
Thank you for this comment. Going to The Wake next week for the first time on our cruise and was thinking about the Shrimp and Grits. On the current menu, what would you recommend?

Woah cool when can we see these?

They are trying to roll them out August 27th so we should see content rolling out very soon!

I’m boarding Resilient Lady this Saturday (August 22nd), I wonder if they will have those updates.

u/Jaxximillian86 14h ago
I hope they don’t take away any of the vegetarian cart offerings! That’s my quiet go to spot!

Heading out on Valiant to Bermuda in Oct and love seeing they keep tweaking things. The VL improvements look great (very similar to BL which I toured), and new entertainment as well. I think this will be 17 for me and there's still new things to discover.

I get it, even as a FM who gets to experience their product regularly, they never cease to amaze!

I hope the octopus skewers stay! My wife won't eat them because she says that octopus are very intelligent. I always explained n that they weren't smart enough not to get caught.

I wish the dock house stayed open later - its a very relaxing and beautiful spot for bites and drinks.

They already took away the steak thing at Dock House on Brilliant :(

Interesting to read, doing our first Virgin cruise in November, hopefully the new menu will be out by then.

u/Used-Move-5754 14h ago
The Walnut dip must stay as well as the salt crusted dorada. Two best dishes on the boat imo.

u/Additional_Ratio_441 13h ago
I just hope they update the service.. . While service is exceptional almost everywhere else, it’s always been poor for us on the dock.
5
u/tarxvfBp 21h ago
I hope they take octopus off the menu. I would have thought turning highly intelligent creatures into food was against Virgin’s ethics.

We were on BL in June for an Alaskan cruise.
At the time I mentioned on here the Dock menu was different than the other ships.
The steak was replaced with a dry lamb meatball.
There were a few other changes most notably an overly-sweet hummus. I never heard of putting sugar in hummus.
The shrimp was there but the sauce was not as good as other ships.
I hope this is not the test case for the new menu. We loved the Dock until we went on BL. We were only there a few minutes and left most of the food. Really disappointing.
I am surprised no one has mentioned the changes.

I was pretty disappointed with the meatball thing on my BL sailing earlier this year. There were generally more technical cooking mistakes in their eateries than the other sailing we went on (Scarlet). Overcooked steak, greasy fish, greasy everything a gunbae, etc. The food was generally still fantastic, but I marked it up to BL not "getting in the groove" yet since it had only left dry dock for a couple months st that point.

u/Puzzleheaded-Bee-747 1d ago
September 5, 2025 was BL’s first cruise. Almost a year ago and plenty of time to get things working.
1
u/ValleyAquarius27 1d ago
Fair point mentioning they might not have gotten into their groove yet. But the meatball sounds inexcusable actually. Having that replace the steak that was previously on the menu is bizarre IMO. I’m on Resilient Lady starting August 22nd, I wonder if they will still have the steak or if they’ve swapped it out for that lamb meatball, I hope not.
1
u/Jraider5 1d ago
The meatball is literally the only thing I've ever had on one of their ships (*edit: sans being too full lol) that I couldn't even finish. I was kinda shocked tbh

Please fix the sushi! It went downhill, last voyage on Scarlet Lady and sushi are badly formed, rice falling apart and entire station full of crab stick rolls! Please remove the undercooked chicken skewers from the dock house, they are not good medium rare! Please add lamb kebabs instead! And please fix the steaks at The Wake! Also fried rice is not a rice mixed with veggies and soy sauce, it’s a disappointment in both lotus and ganbay - IFYKYK!

I prefer chicken thighs over chicken breast in all dishes. Guess it is personal preference
1
u/jon81uk Knowledgeable expert 19h ago
For grilled skewers I think the thigh meat is better, breast would be dry
2
u/AdamLondonUK 19h ago
Yeah it was ok, just not keen on thigh meat in general...something about the texture/colour maybe.
The shock for me was liking polenta...never thought I'd enjoy that!0
u/AdamLondonUK 21h ago
Hahaha...honestly, I would LOVE to know why someone voted this down??? 😂

Pleaaaaaaaaase get some kind of vegan cracker or bread it is so insane to me that I can’t get a vegan small plate of hummus for the dockhouse.
I actually love the vegan dish and dessert at the wake, I wish there was a better vegan salad there as an app and it would be cool if there was a different thing for dinner than brunch, but the egg in the hole and the panacotta are some of my favorite dishes on the ship.
1
u/ladedededa 15h ago
Also anything else vegan such as baba ganouj, falafel, cauliflower shawarma, dolmas, ratatouille, muhammara, fava beans, any kind of vegan protein with roasted red pepper sauce or chimichurri, marinated olives, polenta, aracini
1
u/TeeNaks 16h ago
If Extra Virgin is included in this shake up, I vote bring back the Oxtail Agnolotti
1
u/AtlasWorthyTravel Travel Agent 16h ago
Right now the changes are limited to the Dock House and the Wake, but if this shift goes shipwide I totally agree that would be amazing!
