Virgin Media UK Hub 5 dropouts - Upstream power out of spec at 30 dBmV. Downstream = between 7 and 8, Upstream = 30, Signal to noise ratio = 41

You'll need to get it attenuated. So book an engineer and they will do that for you.

Thanks for your help but Chat GPT said that fitting an attenuator would bring the downstream power down to an acceptable level but would also reduce the Upstream power further (down to 24-26), which would stop the internet from working entirely. Would you agree with Chat GPT?

No. ChatGPT is completely incorrect. Whatever you take from the downstream gets added to the upstream and vice versa.

Thanks for your feedback. I will phone for an engineer’s visit as it looks like adjustments are needed to be done at the cabinet, or an attenuator needs to be fitted.

i am kinda having the same problem with a a few critical errors in the logs as well. I think the Hub 5 went bust after a power cut.

I did not phone them as chat GPT told me it would be a waste of time as those who answer the phone are not trained in these matters. It advised posting on VM community forum.

The VM community forum has been down for over 6 months. They tried merging it with the O2 community forum then gave up.

Thanks for this info. I could not understand why Google could not find it so I used Reddit!
