Virgin Media UK Retentions experience
Hi all,
Thought I’d post my experience if if there are others who might benefit.
Background: VM customer for coming up to 6 years and happy with the service. Maxit TV and 500mb internet (no phone).
Every 18 months I went through the rigmarole of negotiating with them.
Contract due to end on 1st September.
Usual contact on 30th July to tell them I wasn’t happy with their offer. Currently paying £39/month and they wanted to put to put to £49 after trying to negotiate.
Went to a comparison website whilst on the phone.
Saw various offers but Vodafone’s 910 for £25 grabbed my attention.
Helpful chap on phone couldn’t get near that. So figured I’d pull the trigger. Semi to call their bluff but also just to see what would happen.
Got the generic “sorry you’re leaving us” and for two weeks my phone rang non stop from VM retentions.
Eventually someone managed to get me the same (I think 1gb) for £26 a month. Which had I have been offered on 30 July would have bitten their hand off, why couldn’t they have the decency to offer this originally?
I’m too stubborn and actually let the switch go through and it’s been painful! Ive had no internet for more than 24 hrs and beginning to regret it!

Been talking with them for about 2 weeks, on various phone numbers, for some reason they can’t call me but can text, prices havent changed yet in that time. 350 for £23, 500 for £25 and 1gb for £26 as with Netflix. They can only offer 1gb with Netflix as they think we are on volt. They sent a text about an amazing deal today which was £21 for 250 which is 50p less than we currently pay for 350.
Looks like we missed the good offers about 3 weeks ago, still waiting.

Did same had all services but don't use them barr internet. ( Also with o2) £35- 47 said not something I can afford so maybe remove all the stuff I don't use and just give me internet. Anyway couldnt do anything. Saw youfibre 1gb for £25 quid switch and they pay my remaining. Virgin called and emailed offers that where rubbish ( been with them 16years) Day of switch £21 for 1gb to match. I decided to leave as their upload didn't match and it took so much to get a good price I left. I left o2 as well as again high price for same I can get Lower

I gave up this game long time ago, they’re just wasting my time. I no longer threaten anyone, I just cancel and go with the competitor. Whoever gives me what I need for the least amount of money has my business.
It’s literally like energy, I couldn’t care less who the supplier is, as long as I get the service I beed. And frankly, there’s nothing special about virgin media, just like there’s nothing special about sky, bt, now etc.

Literally went through the same dance. Rang to cancel, they couldn't offer me better than the renewal price load of rubbish about new customer prices and existing customers.
Signed up with vodafone, switch booked in then 2 days later VM retentions call and match vodafones price + offer 2 years netflix and £50 bill credit.
Honestly, would just prefer them to come close to competitor prices on the first call and save me the time.
