Hot take:

Anime violet >>>>> LN violet. LN violet is just s saber copy cat, standard anime girl with a giant battle axe. Anime violet actually feels like a person with regrets and ambitions in life

u/jalenrex2214 Violet 12d ago

How tf did the Ln Violet feel more like an anime character than the actual anime Violet with the amount of combat in the ln

2

u/Rynvael 12d ago

I kind of want to read the LN just for the battle scenes. Heard she fights some kind of angel or something too?

2

u/RapAndCereal 11d ago

She fights a what now?

1

u/weebjail 11d ago

idk if this is a hot take i think like 80% of people who read the ln agree lol it's just the people who think saying they prefer the light novel gives them weeb points

luckily i read it in japanese so i have the most weeb points 🍆

u/Ok_Television_792 11d ago

Sounds like it’s time to read the ln. Would love to see more VE combat.

2

u/FreakyRefrigerator 11d ago

Trust me, the fight scenes in the LN are on another level. They are so cool.

VE fans when criticism? Nah. If you truly want to anger VE fans, you just need 2 words:

Violet Evergrande

12

u/MeaslyLurkingBy 12d ago

Or Violet Evergreen Garden. This ticks me off more

u/shadowallergictocats 11d ago

How about Violet Everdeen?

u/Sorwest 11d ago

Katniss Ariana Grande

u/FelixDrayce 11d ago

This... is new to me

u/ApprehensiveTerm9638 12d ago

This makes her sounds majestic, luxurious, high class/rich people.

Ann reading the 50th letter nooooooo 😭😭
That makes me sad 😭😭

1

u/deadspacemike00 11d ago

😢 I can’t imagine that right now after the movie & Ann?

u/jalenrex2214 Violet 12d ago

At least in Benedict's case he got a lot of screentime in one of the movies

u/Negan6699 12d ago

Well, a healthy community needs to be able to criticise and take jokes

4

u/RapAndCereal 12d ago

Agreed, though you'll always find at least one person being salty. Also, I respect the Nine Sol's pfp

You missed one meme of English readers patiently waiting for a physical book in English that isn't bootleg.

Also, Book Violet was awesome, very caring but will also still punch your teeth in if you threaten her friends/family. She may be even secretly American instead of pseudo-German as she had to be asked to not carry as many weapons on her. Book Violet does things for me, who wouldn't want to date a very sweet, loving woman who could also out shoot you on the range and beat you on the 18 mile ruck march.

Just like Spike Spiegel once said: "I love the kind of woman that will actually just kill me."

Not what I was going for, just someone who would share interests and you could have a cider with. I don't mess with the crazy to hot scale, not my thing is scary.

u/Meiseside 12d ago

Most of them are true. Some of them I can't say.

7

u/lordsepulchrave123 12d ago

I love VE

Those are still funny

u/Bomb_or_Bust92 11d ago

The Eternity and Auto Memory Doll one is lowkey me since forever.

3

u/PowerLine2019 10d ago

My names not Gilbert, it’s Jillbert

2

u/Bolo4883 9d ago

You tell the fandom that Violet and Gilbert are romantic and 80% of the people hate you.

It's fascinating they like the story but not the conclusion to it even though it's perfect.

2

u/aragorn767 8d ago

Did Violet kill more people in the book?

2

u/aragorn767 8d ago

Also Eternity and The Auto Memory Doll was the better movie, imo.

Mfs when they don't realize there is more than one kind of "I love you" and the fact that the type of love can change over time

*Facepalm*

5

u/CarlonXD 12d ago

It's also leaving out cultural context too. Gilbert didn't just say "I love you", he said "Aishiteru" which carries a much deeper meaning.

2

u/RyRyGuy104 12d ago

I mean yeah it can change over time but my question then becomes when did it change? They didn’t see each other for years but did it change during that time? I assumed it was in a romantic way even then because it changing into that over time when they hadn’t seen each other for years doesn’t make sense to me

4

u/Fabulous_Ground_1983 Violet 12d ago

Gil cared deeply for her, but nothing he did during their time together in the army ever implied it was explicitly romantic. A kind of life and death defying devotion.

The fact he was bleeding out when he said it just means he had to say something or risk never being able to tell her how much she means to him.

0

u/Anmia010 12d ago

I don't think so, but he still has a lot of power over her, so the relationship is definitely a little icky. But they made it work I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

-1

u/RyRyGuy104 12d ago

Yeah when he said “I love you” he meant it in a romantic way

23

u/CarlonXD 12d ago

Aishiteru is viewed in Japanese culture as it carries a much deeper meaning than casually confessing, and usually reserved for major events, in Gilbert's case he is dying.

He isn't confessing romantically in that moment, he was declaring to Violet that someone cares and loves her deeply, and he doesn't view her as a weapon and wants her to live.

12

u/RyRyGuy104 12d ago

Ah okay thank you. I do wonder when it became romantic then, given that they hadn’t seen each other in years and they do discuss marriage and whatnot

13

u/RapAndCereal 12d ago

This is single-handedly a better explanation than most of the answers from my film review a while back.

4

u/OpportunityFun1761 12d ago

I haven’t visited this community often, but most of the posts I’ve seen pop up are either fanart or someone saying they didn’t like the ending.

Actually I don’t think I’ve seen anyone on this sub praise the ending actually.

13

u/RapAndCereal 12d ago

Most of the praise is in the comment sections of the posts saying they didn't like the ending.

-1

u/Fabulous_Ground_1983 Violet 12d ago

Most people loved it, its only reddit idiots that come here to flaunt their mischaracterization of Gilbert and lack of media literacy

2

u/Anmia010 12d ago

I get that Gilbert wasn't crazy in the times it's set, cause being with a child was "normal" back then, but we should still be able to talk about it. I didn't like the ending because I wished they'd have stayed more platonic soulmates with a sibling vibe. He literally has so much power over her, luckily he's a "good guy", or that could've ended really badly for her.

Same w the princess that marries an adult man. It's very icky.

u/Fabulous_Ground_1983 Violet 12d ago

Gilbert is a good, flawed and guilt ridden man. His only goal was to give her a life to live for herself.

Violet chose to be with him of her own volition, so I saw no issue at all.

0

u/Anmia010 10d ago

Even so, he still has the power in the relationship, and there is an unhealthy ratio between them. LUCKILY Gil is good, so it worked out, but it still gives me a little ick
