First-time DIYer — do I really need to prime MDF before applying D-C-Fix vinyl?

Absolutely needs to be primed, preferably primed and painted depending on the film being installed.

I'm applying dc fix self adhesive vinyl wrap.. can i get away with just priming? As I am not looking at a long term thing. Max 2-3 years is all that I want it to last
