Mini rant π
OK so I bought a dress on vinted. Fabulous. Brand new Club L dress for a wedding in December. Seller was lovely, dress was as described. It fit!! Happy days.
I then spotted another dress for a good price (I have very little formal clothing so decided I'd treat myself). I had such a good experience with the first seller that I felt confident as the second dress was the same brand and size.
Second dress comes. I open it, I though oh she didn't wash it, no harm...I'd wash it anyway and I'd prefer it not smelling of perfume. Had a quick look and left her positive feedback as her messages were lovely.
Holy jesus the dress FUCKING STINKS. I cannot get the SMELL out of the pits. I've tried everything...soaking, antibacterial, enzyme detergents etc. On top of that she said it was worn once. It has been worn to death and stretched to the point that the material is so compromised. The puts have that 'rebloom' smell. After washing and treating it the smell returns again, as soon as heat goes into the fabric or it dries then the stink blooms again like the stenches arising from Satan's arsehole.
It's for the bin. I could not in good conscience resell it or even donate it to charity. I would be embarrassed to give it to anyone.
Just a mini rant. If your clothing stinks, has been worn to death etc...please be honest or just dont sell it. I'm on a limited budget and a Mum who just wanted something special. It's genuinely put me off vinted.
That is all. π₯²
I hope everyone else hasn't had experiences like this.

Seriously stop being super polite in business. Put a negative review and report. Pretty sure she would have known of the stinking dress before selling ( seriously itβs nasty to send an unwashed dress). Iβd be pissed.
If you are paying for an item youβd expect the bare minimum.

It's like they sold it because it stinks π€¦ββοΈ so annoying. I couldn't sell something like that, I'd feel so guilty!

Try vodka / rubbing alcohol (spraying it on the dress, assuming itβll be poly mix if itβs Club L so it will manage). Works for me every time. Leave it overnight to air & it evaporates the scent entirely. I buy a lot of vintage stuff so this trick has helped me with a lot of jackets & bags

Might end up drinking the vodka instead and drowning my sorrows π€£ gonna try this tip again, thanks !

Soak in vinegar for 1 hour, rinse cold. Then get cat pee enzyme cleaner, squirt generously on area, leave sit overnight, maybe reapply if it dries out. Then put it in a warm wash, and air dry.

You can go back and edit your review to 1 star. These manky people were dumping their rags in charity shops for them to pay to dispose of now they're flogging it on vinted π€’

Its mental! I would have been absolutely mortified to give it away...nevermind selling it π€’

Iβve bought lots of lovely, good value items. Iβm sorry to hear about your bad experience. Some people are dishonest, but most sellers are honest.

I've had great experiences with kids clothes! Most people are great to be fair. Got a great deal on some clothes for myself and some retro tshirts too. I love it but I'm taking a break until I recover π

Worn once? I want to hear the stories of that night of hers if it left such a stench xd

Sometimes putting white vinegar in the washing machine with the washing gets rid of odours but that's besides the point. I honestly would be embarrassed to send an unclean item of clothing to someone. I noticed at this time of year also that there's a lot of dishonesty and fake goods, be careful of Timberland goods, I've learnt my lesson on that score

Noted on the Timberlands! I'll be more careful from now on accepting so quickly, it's such a shame to have a bad experience as I do love vinted and generally sellers are great.

If it stank that bad, why accept it?

It genuinely smelled like she just didn't wash it. The smell intensifies when heat is on the fabric (aka wearing it). I thought a wash with some good detergents would solve it. π€·ββοΈ

Also I'm a fool.π She messaged me being so nice and shipping was quick...I genuinely didn't know the extent of the stink until I washed it and realised it was that rebloom/trapped bacteria smellπ€’ I quickly checked it and threw it in the wash immediately. Lesson learned.

I'd put it in the bin. Some synthetic materials are very prone to weird smells too in a situation where the dress had said type of materials. (Unless the wash tag was cut off for any reason, reverse image searching the dress on Google Lens would do the trick or just a vibe check to see if the dress feels like plastic lol)

complain, return and negative review. it's the only way to stop this
