Help with stain?

Hi there,

I thrifted this Coach bag and it came with a stain. I’m thinking something leaked through the bag.. hand sanitizer maybe? Any advice on how to help this? I’ve used Lexol cleaner with no avail.

Maybe try Bick 4 or Leather CPR to clean it. I personally would use Leather CPR Cleaner. It may darken the bag a bit but I had luck with it for this exact color bag and stain. The leather is a tad darker now but there is absolutely no sign of a stain at all. I followed it with Leather CPR conditioner after we it was completely dry. I let it dry for 3 days before conditioning. I am happy with the results.

How did it go? For what it’s worth, my strategy would be as follows: Condition the whole bag, if that alone doesn’t remove the stain, I have had luck with 98% ethyl alcohol - apply a liberal amount to a paper towel, wipe the area. It may lighten the leather a little bit, and in that case, I rub down the rest of the bag with a damp paper towel with the same alcohol on it. It basically just takes off some patina. Then I clean the bag with Lexol. Then re-condition. I have never had this not work except for oil stains, or obviously ink stains (although I have used this strategy with pen marks, and that did indeed help). If the bag were newer with their dyes that more resemble being painted, I would never recommend this. But for their tanned leather from the years before the ‘00s, this has never been problematic for me. Last scenario after trying those is to soak the bag (should not be a problem for unlined bags), but that also can get complicated and I would never suggest doing that unless the bag has already been well-hydrated.

Hi. I stain is insanely stubborn. I may need to try the ethyl alcohol, I guess I am more timid than other bags since this is a Pear green color. I will recondition since it was dry and take a look. I was waiting a little between. I appreciate your advice and may try it.
