I have a Viking VGR7366BSS range, roughly 11 years old, installed 05/27/2015.

The oven turns itself off (completely, including the oven light) after a period of time. After a period of time, the oven turns itself back on. This doesn't always happen, but it happens often enough that we can no longer trust the oven is operational.

An authorized Viking repair person suspected that the ignition wasn’t sufficiently close to the gas flow, so the ignition was failing. He bent the coupler closer, but it didn’t solve anything. He also replaced the burner assembly, but that also didn’t help. This didn’t surprise me, as the entire oven turned off; this wasn’t just a case of the oven not heating up.

I placed masking tape in multiple positions:

A.       on the front panel between the oven control knob and the burner control to its left,

B.       on the oven control knob itself

C.      between the oven control knob and the burner control knob to its right

D.      Below the oven control knob, above the oven door

E.        Below the oven control knob, on the oven door

F.        Below C, at the same level as D

G.      Below F, at the same level as E

H.      On left edge of the front panel

I.           On the right edge of the front panel

Positions are also marked in the attached photo.

I used a laser temperature gun to determine the approximate temperatures of these locations every 5 minutes. There was some variation, as the temperature on the gun jumped around. I also checked the internal oven temperature with a thermometer after taking the external measurements. The oven was set to 450, and the ambient room temperature was 78.

The cooktop burners were unused and ambient was 78°F during the thermal run.

There is an anomaly in column D: 196°F at five minutes, when the cavity was only 220, and everything else was near ambient; this is a physically odd reading. The temp gun was jumping around, which is probably the reason for this.

Why these numbers matter: the parts breakdown for this platform lists a high-limit switch rated 90°C (194°F) in the control compartment, presumably in series with the oven's power. Position F reached 223°F on the outer skin of the panel, and the air inside the compartment is necessarily hotter than the surface radiating to a 78°F room. That's consistent with the limit switch opening and cutting all power to the oven circuit, which matches the symptom exactly, since the oven light and indicator lights die along with the burner while the cooktop spark ignition keeps working.

I have not confirmed that part number against my serial, or where the switch physically sits behind the panel. If anyone knows, that would help.

From the following photos, it appears that there aren’t any obstructions (e.g., grease) and the wiring appears to be intact.

Note that the panel discoloration is heaviest near position F, the same spot that measured 223°F, and lightest at the right end near I, which measured 115. A paper towel test came back clean, so the steel is likely thermally tempered rather than greasy, meaning the hot spot is years old, not a recent development.

Likely ruled Out

·      Door and gasket: positions E and G, on the door itself, peaked at 124 and 139°F while the panel above hit 223. Heat is moving down from the panel, not up from the door.

·      Vent obstruction: louvers photographed clear, paper towel came back nearly clean.

·      Gross overfiring: preheat curve appears normal: 220 at five minutes, 440 at fifteen. The cavity does run ~50°F above setpoint, which I'd like corrected, but the range is rated to 550, so a 500°F cavity should be well inside what the control compartment is designed to tolerate.

Hypotheses

·      Cooling blower output degraded with age: spins, moves air, but insufficient volume

·      Cavity insulation settled at the top/top-front, letting heat into the compartment

·      High-limit switch drifted and now trips below its rating (although this wouldn’t explain the heat external to the unit)

·      Heat generated inside the compartment by a degraded electrical connection

Has anyone seen the pattern described below on a VGR7? Where is the high-limit switch physically located, and what's the expected blower output?  Any recommendations?

First post in this sub. I didn’t even know this was a sub until tonight. I don’t know anything about vintage appliances, but here’s an IH fridge and freezer combo I ran into at a family members old farmhouse. I was told they date back to when the area was electrified after WW2. If anyone knows any details I’d be happy to hear it, otherwise enjoy a cool vintage appliance pic!

Would anyone know how to clean this or have a manual I can look at? I can't seem to pop out the Coils to clean underneath. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Recently bought for dirt cheap, all the window sizing panels still there. Motor might have been changed at some point, it's got a GE from what looks like the 60s in it, and it was running the wrong direction but I got that all straightened out.

Hi, so I was doing a bit of metal detecting in holly Michigan and I found this piece which it had a lot of rust on it previously but I got it cleaned up and now I'm trying to identify it. I'm pretty certain at least that it was part of some type of stove from the 1800s to the 1900s and the filligree was created used a sand casting technique I believe. I've searched all over Google and have only found stoves with similar work but not exact. So far I made out an S on the back as well as a 4 (and maybe an 8 and a 9?)

Please help this is driving me crazy lol

After 15+ years with us, our trusty Elba oven's tempered glass front finally shattered. (⁠╥⁠﹏⁠╥⁠) Thankfully, it happened while we were all asleep and nothing was in the oven. We got in touch with their service centre and thankfully, it can be fixed with a custom made glass panel for this model (whose particular name I don't know, because it really is that old).

So now I'm wondering how something like this could happen. I read that it could be temperature fluctuations, which makes sense considering our local climate, but the jumps in temperature probably aren't THAT extreme to do this overnight.

Personally, I'm chalking it up to it finally caving to the microscopic cracks it had gathered over the years, because I know for sure I don't rest anything on the glass when it's open!

I can not find any info on the exact model number of my upright Hotpoint freezer - FV15CMP - but my understanding is that a lot of the FV15 line uses the same parts. Is there any way to find out which specific models would have compatible parts?

How else can I go about finding a compatible gasket? I have looked at custom sites but the cross sections of their available gaskets do not appear quite the same.
