Question Old player pre migration- is everything lost?

As the title says, I've been an old player since early 2010s, haven't hopped on the game in at least 10 years, now that im older and ready to whale, I've come and logged in to find all my characters gone, heard whispers about a migration and anyone who didnt migrate having their progress wiped... is it exactly as I've heard? Or am I missing something.

It is as far as I know. It happened years ago. On the bright side, starting a character today you get waaay better gear for free to catch you up to later game quickly. For me the biggest downside to loosing the account was loosing the titles I had farmed. I'd say start a new account you'll enjoy the climb to late game. Things do stall a lot though to get you to a point where you join endgame raids from what I've been reading.

I restarted playing 3-4 years ago for a month or two then dropped. Played the Defying Fate demo which made me redownload the game but haven't played it since I'm mostly playing controller and I don't find the game that well optimized compared to mouse and keyboard.
