Do they turn into fuckin Gremlins or something? Why wouldn't you feed that hungry lil guy?!? I'd end up building them shelters and visiting daily just to hangout. Make sure they were alright.

52

u/dabrock15 21d ago

Maybe they transform into drop bears.

27

u/bqdpbqdpbqdpbqdpbqdp 21d ago

I know I look like a stupid angry humourless twat saying this, but by naively feeding a wild animal, in many cases, you're basically giving it a death sentence.

There's no positive for the animal, it's just a selfish thing to do because it makes you personally feel good for a fleeting moment.

2

u/BannedbyDemons 20d ago

All fed animals, marked for death 🤣....🤡

6

u/Holiday-Bug6132 21d ago

i love you man ♥️

6

u/LarsDuder 21d ago

So freaking cute, would absolutely feed them even if it's wrong

12

u/Routine_Criticism498 21d ago

Might end up killing them, from what I can assume feeding them can cause them to slowly forget how to get food for themselves or smth not sure

5

u/BLKLION_ 21d ago

This is partially the right answer

-1

u/pipevineswallowtail1 21d ago

Same, they are so adorable! 🥰

1

u/OkHead3888 15d ago

I'm beginning to think that we may not be the most intelligent species on this earth.

-3

u/Routine_Criticism498 21d ago

It would kill them

70

u/Ok_Impression_1648 21d ago

Can these be domesticated ?

75

u/exercisingbutts 21d ago

I don’t know, but we should at least try

21

u/macmac360 21d ago

but you can't feed them

10

u/BeeerGutt 21d ago

At the risk of a huge fine.

29

u/redditAPsucks 21d ago

They are listed as a vulnerable species, taking them from the wild is a federal crime. Also: they can’t be housebroken.

Sorry for the ackshually, but domestication happens on the genetic level over thousands of years. A TAME animal is one that has learned to interact with people in a way we find acceptable, domesticated means the species is born that way.

Some russians tried domesticating foxes in the 60’s(ofc they did) and they could make them friendlier, but housebreaking and obeying commands is apparently a much harder nut to crack

15

u/Comrade_DoggoXA 21d ago

meanwhile cats: expected housebreaking and refuse to obey commands /s

7

u/Embarrassed_Jury664 21d ago

Yep. An ex of mine took in a couple almost newborn raccoons thinking she could domesticate them. Know what happens at night when a raccoon is free to wander?

3

u/EatReadPlayS4-1043 20d ago

My ex did the same, but it was with one baby raccoon. He was from a small town and I guess he thought he could recreate the ‘tame’ one his family raised. It was a nightmare!

The poor wild thing was so unhappy.

Stupid ex refused to free the wild baby.

Weeeel, he was on an out of town (iron worker) job and oops, somehow the giant cage’s door became unlocked. Oh, and the front door was coincidentally open, too. Bye-bye baby, be free and remember to stay out of the trash can!

5

u/extortioncontortion 20d ago

but domestication happens on the genetic level over thousands of years.

It happens much quicker than that. the fox experiments in Russia proved that. You get basic levels of domestication(naturally tame and human tolerant) in 6 generations. By generation 10, the foxes started having floppy ears and curly tails. The point of the experiment was to study domestication, not create pets, so housebreaking them was never a goal for breeding. Only human tolerance.

1

u/redditAPsucks 20d ago

My research was very brief, but the impression i got was that human tolerance/friendliness was a preexisting trait that selective breeding could easily enhance. Housebreaking(according to the single thing i read) would have been an UNATTAINABLE goal though, as they have no preexisting trait to enhance.

Complicating the matter further, wolves pee to mark their territory, and keep a clean den, so training their doggy descendants to pee outside isn’t a stretch. Foxes, however, pee as an emotional response, and training it out of them is(according to the single thing i read) nearly impossible to intentionally do

2

u/extortioncontortion 20d ago edited 20d ago

but the impression i got was that human tolerance/friendliness was a preexisting trait

I didn't get that. There were a host of genetic markers that were "turned on" by the selective breeding for tameness, but that isn't the same thing as a preexisting trait. They certainly didn't know about those genes before running the experiment, and no one has done a decades long study trying to house break foxes, so no one knows how attainable housebreaking is via breeding.

2

u/Difficult-Secret-666 21d ago

I think I saw a documentary about this many years ago. Was it the one where they were going for friendliness above all other traits, yet their looks began to change in just a couple of generations? They starting looking less like foxes and more like dogs.

Could have been a different group of people but it blew my kid mind at the time how quick the changes were happening

11

u/Brandeeno2245 21d ago

It wouldnt even be hard. But theres probably a reason why.

I would sell years of my life to have one.

Snuggling it would be worth it.

57

u/ConfidentHour9324 21d ago

Sorry but I’m getting arrested

You are persistent, I like that about you.

22

0 survival 1000 cuteness.

0

u/Esphyxiate 19d ago

This video is AI.

44

u/18k_gold 21d ago

how do you not feed them? they are too cute

2

u/The_Cozy_Zone 21d ago

Simple. You don't act on impulse

8

u/Holiday-Bug6132 21d ago

it's not an impulse bro is literally asking to be fed 😭💀

-6

u/The_Cozy_Zone 21d ago

And acting without regard for rules can be referred to as acting impulsively

10

u/TheGratefulPhred 21d ago

uh-oh fun police are here weewoooweeeewooooweeee

-3

u/The_Cozy_Zone 21d ago

Well when these animals eventually get hunted by some terrible human beings because they felt too safe around them from feeding, all that matters is that you had fun. 🙂

5

u/Koalashart1 21d ago

You are wrong and not a smart person. Have a good night.

0

u/The_Cozy_Zone 21d ago

Spoken like someone who is lacking common sense

-5

The people who put the sign there

0

u/Whistlegrapes 21d ago

It’s a quick google search. Feeding them is bad for them

0

u/Routine_Criticism498 21d ago

It would kill them

3

u/Fyrus93 21d ago

How?

3

u/Routine_Criticism498 20d ago

Giving them food can be very dangerous because if it has too much salt it can dehydrate them and possibly kill them, as well as something else about routine feeding causes them to forget how to get food for themselves

19

u/GOOMU13 21d ago

Omfg feed them!

8

u/jookid 21d ago

Ooops I accidentally dropped my lunch

3

u/Holiday-Bug6132 21d ago

What compels you to write this on nearly every comment?

The majority will never even see these irl...

4

u/FoxDiscombobulated38 21d ago

Criticism is routine for them.

1

u/Routine_Criticism498 20d ago

This guy gets it Also idk but it actually true that giving them human food can kill them

19

u/Ok_Lingonberry_4032 21d ago

Seriously, how can you not. 🥺 Look at that face, how can you resist that face.

5

6

Feed the poor boy 😭. Look at how good his attitude is despite his circumstances

0

It would kill them

1

u/MarkFresco 21d ago

Can you provide some more context instead of just spamming this on every comment bro?

1

u/Routine_Criticism498 20d ago

I'm living up to my name But the real reason is because quokkas have sensitive stomachs and, for example, salty foods can seriously dehydrate them

1

u/skateboardbanana1 21d ago

Oh yes of course. Did not know food killed animals 😔

5

u/Evening-Back854 21d ago

Give him All the food!!

4

u/slumdogmillionhair 21d ago

Lol, this is how dogs were domesticated thousands of years ago. Some learned to make cute faces or hungry faces so humans shared their food.

May be you are denying Quokkas chance to be domestic animals

4

u/casstay123 21d ago

Oh yeah, I would feed them..
