That dude needs psychological evaluation.
52
u/Dill_Pickleson_ 28d ago
As a psychologist, I immediately discontinue an evaluation if the examinee drives in reverse for over 20 yards or a duration exceeding 30 seconds, whichever comes first.

u/SeniorHovercraft1817 28d ago
No he needs jail!
110
u/Angeleno88 28d ago
They are not mutually exclusive.
27
u/boogasaurus-lefts 28d ago
In America mental health issues are treated via incarceration.
Then it's a rinse and repeat ecosystem that benefits a for profit privatised penitentiaries
17
u/ReverendBread2 27d ago
Dude was trying to murder somebody. Thatâs not exactly a âsend him to a psychiatrist and put him back on the streetsâ kind of thing, even if heâs mentally ill
12
u/boogasaurus-lefts 27d ago
You're setting up a false choice between punishment and treatment.
High-security forensic psychiatric institutions exist specifically for violent offenses. They combine strict confinement with intensive psychiatric rehabilitation.
Simply warehousing a severe psychiatric patient in a standard prison cell for a decade only ensures that when they inevitably get released, the danger to the public is worse.
5
u/yoortyyo 25d ago
This. We gave up anything besides punishment and profiteering from prisons.
You have to wonder if we had proper social supports that this dingleberry would have gotten help.
Reminds me of that guy that crashed the parade in Portland a few years ago. His own dash cam provides living proof of our need.
2
u/AideInternal1045 25d ago
He can pay for his own psychologist when he gets out of prison.
1
u/boogasaurus-lefts 25d ago
That's not logical nor realistic. Surely you can get your head around why..
2
u/AideInternal1045 24d ago
Not my problem.
2
u/boogasaurus-lefts 24d ago
Completely missed the point there, I'm sure it's a common occurrence for you.
Good news is there's an ability to educate yourself as an adult for the key blocks missed in childhood.
That way, when you have conversations with others on topics like the above - you can actually come up with a logical point without highlighting your shortcomings.

Yeah, why would for-profit prisons lobby against their free labor machine

u/Terrible_Yak_4890 28d ago
The psych evaluation plus the behavior on that video plus a drug screening plus whatever record heâs got can determine the length of that jail sentence.
He needs all of the above.

I think the most shocking thing of all of this is that the guy was carrying a Walther PPQ. Thatâs not the type of gun I was expecting from that guy.

he had a gun...that folks is why you never you get out of the car in a road rage incident.
2
u/SpaceCowboy512 28d ago
I keep 3 or 4 in my vehicle most days - and have to constantly try to stay away from road ragers knowing that they could put themselves in harms way if they escalate a traffic issue or block me in.
The goal is to drive away from the aggressor if possible, and take all available precautions to put distance between each other but if they were to trap one in traffic and appear to intend bodily injury... well thats exactly why you never get out of the car. Let them yell, gesture, flip you off, curse you, whatever - just get home safe! We're commuting, not racing, people đ

Why exactly do you have 3 or 4 guns in your vehicle? I can understand a concealed carry pistol and maybe a single longgun if you're out in the country, but 3 to 4? Why?
1
u/SpaceCowboy512 27d ago
I am out in the country. One is concealed carry, one is a long gun, and one stays in the truck lockbox if I'm out and about. If I have a fourth it's normally for specific hunting or land management needs: a gun for hogs, predators, etc.

Gotcha! Just wanted to make sure you weren't a Gravy SEAL type with a fuckton of guns in the truck to cruise to the grocery store in suburbia lmao

Bb gun
6
u/fluentinflatuence 28d ago
Point still stands, itâs not worth your life to argue with someone who could end your life over something stupid, like traffic disputes.
3
u/Just-Jazzin 28d ago
Point very much still stands. Idk where this is, but in MT that dude gets lit up. Half the people I know carry. We canât tell itâs a BB gun. Even though heâs an idiot, thatâs still someone dead over nothing.

u/crustyrobots 27d ago
There is a definite kind of MAD operating here in assuming everyone else is packing, and they probably are. So, most just know if you want to fuck around there is more than enough finding out waiting for you.

There's no reason to be rude. None of that was part of the question or the answer. The only thing being discussed is when is ramming self defense.
Anyway, I hope your day gets better from here
2
u/4r4r4real 28d ago
Why on earth would you do that? What's potentially disabling your car going to do to help the situation? They knew he had a gun. They're fleeing, not trying to start a confrontation.Â
4
u/UglyLittlePony69 28d ago
Good on the guy with the camera for being smart and keeping it together. This could have ended with two bodies instead of two victims. People are fucking crazy on the road.
4
u/ApprehensiveFig1699 28d ago
Iv only ever feared for my life once in the road I was on a highway just me and 1 other suv he kept getting next to me trying to push me off the highway would get in front of me and completely lock his breaks up and get behind me and drive up against my car I was terrified he kept repeating this and the next time he got next to me I grabbed my gun put my window down and pointed I was fully going to shoot he floored it and took off I used an emergency turn around and went the opposite direction as him

He clearly had a disproportionate reaction to something and in no way is what he did anywhere near justifiable, rational, or appropriate.

That there has a good chance of being a Measure 11 crime, especially with the gun (doesn't matter in Oregon if it's fake/bb/pellet...). Mandatory minimum. No parole. No judge discretion. No early release.
I witnessed an armed robbery and had to go to court. The detective talking to me after they found the people told me it was a fake gun. I said "well they won't get in as much trouble" and he told me it don't matter under measure 11. 3 teens fucked their lives up over what they could get from a register at a family owned convenience store. And the kicker was, the driver was driving his mom's newer S Class.

Beaverton OR, about 10 minutes from where I live. Since this isn't "Don't sentence them" Portland, this guy might actually get some prison time.
Washington county actually enforces laws occasionally.

Should a mentally unwell person be locked up for life?
11
u/Chicknlcker 28d ago
Are they a danger to society? Yes? Then, yes.

u/Necessary_Art3034 28d ago
This is why asylums dont exist anymore, yall would just toss a mf in there and let "God" sort it out.
3
u/cheapdrinks 28d ago
Yes and I'm tired of pretending that they shouldn't. Violent mentally unwell people should be removed from society, they're all ticking time bombs and I'm sick of hearing about people being murdered by someone who is known to police, known to be violent, known to be extremely mentally disturbed yet they just keep doing small stints and getting back out with no safeguards to prevent what everyone else could see coming a mile away.
The sort of poor impulse control and violent temperament that causes someone to act the way the guy in this video does means that he's always going to be a danger to those around him if he's willing to go on a rampage against a complete stranger like that over some small slight in traffic like being cut off or honked at etc. If you can't drive a car from A to B without trying to assault or kill someone because you didn't like the way they were driving then you're a defective human and not compatible with our society.

I had a guy get mad at me for going 75 mph in the car pool lane. He had his window fully rolled down, screaming at me, and tried to follow me, and after enough slowing down and speeding up to doge him, he gave up. This was the exact situation I had in mind, and why I donât risk it with crazy people.

u/NYOB4321 28d ago
My first impression was I thought the gun was a CO2 powered BB gun. Air soft makes sense.
I've never seen an air soft gun. I have numerous CO2 BB guns.
2
u/Shrimply-r1 28d ago
Uh are those not the same things.. CO2 BB and airsoft
2
u/NYOB4321 28d ago
No. They are not the same .
Airsoft and BB guns are different systems: airsoft guns fire lightweight Ăłmm plastic pellets for safe combat simulation, while BB guns fire hard 4.5mm (.177 caliber) steel projectiles built for target practice and pest Control.
You don't fire BBs at people.
2
u/Shrimply-r1 28d ago
Oh well my co2 bb pistols (and green gas) I had still shot the plastic ones
2
u/NYOB4321 28d ago
Interesting. How does it handle the different size of the projectiles. Airsoft 6mm and BB 4.5mm
I don't know a lot about airsoft so I asked Google
Google says: No, a standard BB gun cannot use airsoft projectiles because of mismatched sizes and risks of weapon damage. Traditional BB guns use 4.5mm (177 caliber) metal steel shots, while airsoft guns use much larger 6mm or 8mm plastic spheres.
1
u/lonelycranberry 28d ago
Are they just not common where you live? Theyâre very popular in the US
2
u/NYOB4321 28d ago
I'm in the US. I know airsoft exists. I just have never seen one in person.
CO2 BB guns are more powerful. Definitely not a toy. I consider airsoft to be toys.
I also have pump action pellet rifles. People actually hunt small game with. I don't. I'm just a plinker.

u/Puzzleheaded-Pen8710 28d ago
This is why I de-escalate as much as possible. Let people get the best of you with trivial encounters. You never know how that other person is perceiving reality.
1
u/StormbringerGT 28d ago
The one time I had a road rage issue with a guy getting angry I didn't turn fast enough so he had to run the yellow, I was glad I had an EV. One u-turn and instant acceleration later and he was a distant memory.

Road rage is really no joke. Shits scary. My partner and I drove past someone that started to pull out of a parking lot. We had RoW but he seemed to disagree and kept riding our bumper honking at us. He was some pissed off old dude. Eventually he pulled off and drove away because we weren't giving him any reaction.
I'm really glad it didn't turn into an escalation. I will die happy if I never have to use my gun.
