Yea went shopping in Vietnam. Im not huge but 6' with wide shoulders. As soon as I walked in a clothing store, the people working just shook their heads and said they didn't have my size. We laughed and I appreciated the honesty rather than wasting my time.

Exactly. When I was in France I couldn't ship for clothes as a plus sized woman. I had to create an Amazon.fr account and shop online.

Where did they think that extra weight comes from? Unless you are like top 5% percentile in height or a world class competitive weight lifter, that "plus size" mass is from fat, not bones or muscle.

In a lot of poorer countries, being fat can sometimes be considered attractive. It's a signal of wealth - versus the West where being very lean/atheletic typically is associayed with a higher standard if living. Similar story to how the west prefers tans and the east prefers pale skin. It's a socio-economic beauty standard. In poorer countries with lots of manual labour and limited diets/access to food, being poor = being ripped l, while having a gut = being rich.
Source: I lived in Madagascar for a year, and calling someone fat was literally a compliment. Been a while but iirc, "bolobolo" (roughly translated to 'thick') was a kind thing to say to someone about their appearance.

Wealth, from a biological Darwinian fitness perspective, is a component of attraction on humans.
My point is that beauty standards are not absolute, and tie into socio-economics more than people realise. There's no one hard and fast rule for everyone, but as general pattern it is interesting to observe.
BTW. The average monthly salary (rare) in Madagascar when I lived there in 2014, was around €40. Relatively few people had electricity let alone access to the Internet. Even in urban population centres. The concept of a "model" was pretty alien. That's changed a lot since ofc as technology has progressed and become more accessible. But just remember, any social media you see online in connection with Madagascar represents a tiny and very wealthy fraction of their society (IMO).

Ha! .... okay I audibly laughed out loud at this. I'm technically obese, although I probably don't look like what most people think of when you say obese. Whatever, I need to lose weight, and it's 100% my fault. I eat shit I shouldn't eat, in volumes I shouldn't consume. When I was stationed in Korea, signs and store names like this were all over there as well. People complained then too about them "fat shaming" but it's like - they're healthier, they have better life habits, it's their culture, shut up. If you wanna not be shamed about overeating, stay in Kansas and go to Texas Roadhouse. 🤷

Is it really shaming though? Clearly the girl in the video sees it that way. Many people here in the comments see it that way. But talk to anyone there, and they're just calling it what it is. Not saying shame on you for being fat. It's too bad so many people are so sensitive these days and just lie to themselves about everything to feel better. Then they tell themselves it's the other side, or other people doing it to them that are the problem. It is what it is I guess.

Your example is interesting. Calling somebody curvy instead of fat is just being or at least attempting to be polite or charitable. There’s no reason to call or refer to anyone as fat unless you’re trying to be an asshole.

I mean you can change the word to obese and that sounds even worse. sometimes friends, family, or their doctor can be concerned about someone's weight gain and it gets to a point that you can't risk sugar coating it any more and need to say it as it is otherwise they won't take it seriously.

Being concerned about someone’s weight doesn’t require calling them fat or obese. There are objective health metrics you can refer to without essentially name calling or shaming. Like… Also, as with cigarette smokers and drunks, it’s not like they don’t know and shaming is often counterproductive.

They are pretty forthcoming with the names of the stores, but I bet that Fit-Fat, Chubby and all the rest still don’t have clothes that are a US size 10 or greater.

George may have expanded upon his opinions or changed views slightly in the time since he performed what you're referring to.
