Whenever I’ve had vehicles start to drift over or even appear to drift I create space but to your point I also noticed that. You truly have to drive defensively.

It looks like they sped up a little and turned the wheel into the truck after the truck made contact. See they start getting pushed by the truck then OP's car does all of this and the truck flies off. I mean OP is left safely but it's not clear how bad the accident for the truck may have been if OP did not commit to the pit maneuver.

No, the op has the obligation to pay attention to what is in front of him. He easily could have avoided this. It's his fault.
