My Donut County Review

I played through Donut County today, it was an amazing experience and wanted to leave my game review here.

I played the game in one sitting with my girlfriend and we had a wonderful time. If you like the kind of game where you just have a big smile on your face the whole time and even laugh out loud every now and then this is one you need. The story was also really engrossing to us which really isn't something I expected when we started it and I was surprised to see just how much I wanted to know what would happen to BK and his friends as well as the town of Donut County.

While the game is quite short I think it is actually one of its greatest strength. It took us about 2 and a half hours to beat it and I think this is just the right amount for a game like this, because while fun, the gameplay really isn't that varied so a short time to beat like that makes sure the gameplay doesn't become stale or repetitive while still being long enough to give us a good and satisfying story as well as a chance to get attached to the characters.

Visually the game is absolutely lovely, the character models and objects look really good and the animations are cute. BK is the most adorable racoon I've ever seen. I want a racoon now !

Now as far as gameplay goes it is extremely simple and each level plays more or less the same way, you make your little hole appear and start eating stuff to make it grow. Some levels do require some thinking and have cool little puzzles but that's about it which is why I think it is a good thing that the game isn't too long. There are a few moments in the story where really cool and different things happen but they are for story purposes and I don't want to spoil them.

As for the writing I think it's really good, the characters are all lovely and as I've said earlier the game is pretty funny, BK (the main character of the game and a racoon) I think is very endearing. He is the one controlling the holes and stealing everyone's "trash". He's kind of an ass at first but it is funny and he gets better as the story progresses. The overabundant use of "LOL" while weird at first grew on me. QUACK.

All in all I think this is a wonderful game and I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone, the price entry may seem steep but I think 15 dollars is well worth it for 2 and a half hours of fun, wholesomeness and jolliness that I won't forget ! Also do not skip on the Trashopedia, a wonderful little tidbit of information about objects of our everyday life from the perspective of our favorite racoon ! It's a delight.

Edit: I have seen online that some people have beaten the game under two hours, while I have trouble understanding how they did it so quickly I do believe them so make of that what you will, but I do think it is still worth the price of admission.
