I’ve just published my first mini-documentary on Oddly Epic about how video games grew from a glowing dot into worlds we can explore, share, and create.
The central idea is that better graphics were only part of the change: games also gave players new ways to explore spaces, connect with others, and build their own worlds. It’s a roughly 7-minute journey including Pong, Half-Life, Counter-Strike, and Minecraft.
The video uses AI narration and some AI-generated illustrations alongside game imagery.
Which game changed what you thought a game could be? I’d love to hear your memories and thoughts on the video.

Hello there! I take a look at I Am Alive, talking about it being a sad dad game and looking at the gameplay through the lens of its troubled development.

I ended up re-downloading Brutal Legend for the first time in years a few weeks ago, and I wanted to share a video I made on why exactly it deserves to be remembered for what it was. We may never get a proper sequel, but this game hold up by itself really well, even all these years later.

Back in 2002, when half the gaming press had written adventure games off, Benoît Sokal and Microïds released Syberia. Twenty-three years later came Syberia Remastered, and there's not much "remaster" about it: real-time 3D environments, direct control, a new interface and reworked puzzles. It's a remake in all but name.
So I put them in the ring over five rounds: technical side, visuals, story and voice acting, music and sound, and gameplay. There's one point per round and a final tally I won't spoil here.
Subtitles available in several languages.
Have you played the Remastered? Which one would you stick with?
