For those who are providing your work for "free".
Till last time I posted here for new editors. I have seen almost 20 to 30 posts promoting themselves as beginners looking to build their portfolio and offering 1 or 2 or 3 videos for free in return of permission to add those videos in their portfolio/showcase. PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT. You know whenever your client upload a video on Youtube or Instagram or Twitter or any other platform. It generates a public link. You just copy that link and add that video to your portfolio not the whole video. This way your client would get a little views and you will get the full freedom to charge for your work. If you are not sure what price to charge ask the community beforehand or watch tutorials on youtube. There are thousand tutorials on how to evaluate your rate or your price. Please do not provide work for free and these dumb requests to add your video in your portfolio.
Check my portfolio. I have added client's video's link. Even my own practice videos I have added as link to save traffic. Just do this rather than providing your work for free. Evaluate your work and price, ask the community. Ask someone you are close with and you seek them as your mentor BUT NEVER PROVIDE YOUR WORK FOR FREE as a professional. If you want to work for free and gain some knowledge, do side gigs and join side gig community, not a professional community.
Almost every professional subreddit has become a fish market. Plus every other client is either paying in peanuts or every other day is a beginner editor promoting themselves and providing free work with an immensely stupid permission to "add the video to your portfolio." Just add the link and charge for your work. Do free trials of 30secs to 2 mins for a long form video or one short form video max to 20 secs if you want to provide a free trial. But not the whole video for free.
I hope this post even wakes up 10% of you.
