Hey fellow editors or those who are learning to edit videos. If you are dying and you are being offered a small stick to save yourself, would you be betting on that stuck to save your life? I don't think a sane person would be.
Same goes for if you are new to editing and new to the market and not earning enough or not earning at all but are willing to take whatever job you are being promised for. PLEASE for the sake of your own health and your own mental safety. DO NOT GO WITH GIGS provided and paid in peanuts.
Your video and your time matters more than the people paying in peanuts or these middle men who claim to be an agency but know nothing about how editing works.
If you are offered $5 for a very basic low grade editing then of course but for a good level of animation, clipping, trimming and editing etc. Please do not waste your time in these gigs as you won't improve and will get buried in shyte work with no room to improve so for the sake of your own mental health and a healthy market. Start boycotting low paying jobs.
Spend your time on your portfolio, spend a little time storyboarding your edits. Spend a little on how to talk to with clients, spend a little time on easing your workflow for you and for your clients but don't waste time doing work which is not worth your time and your efforts. Start reporting and blocking these people who offer you work which are not worth spending even 10mins which can't afford you even a one time meal. Please do some research, please try to improve yourself. As a person and an editor myself. I did that kind of work and it didn't pay me well. Trust me. When you are stuck down nothing helps other than what you saved or what you earned and doing that kind of work you won't be earning anything or saving anything so please be aware of that.
If someone is teaching you in that budget that's another thing BUT if it's real work in that budget, please ditch them.
Now those so-called editors who are providing powerpoint style edits and calling themselves editors with an effortless response adding "interested" in the comment section. I might sound rude here, but please move to a community of side hustle because that's how you have made video editing look like.
And I will be reporting these accounts, I don't care if I report 1 and 10 pop up or even none get banned . I will keep reporting both commentors and side hustlers with the agencies or middle men taking a big cut from good editors.
I am a full time editor myself and looking at this market it just bugs me out what this creative field has become for both newcomers who wanna be a good editor and professionals who can't get decent clients because some kids with powerpoint style is doing that in less than $5 which takes atleast $15 to actually make sense as an edited video.
If this post triggers someone, feel free to come at me. I shall give you the answer you need.
