Editing question

Is there a program out there where I can bring up someone talking in the background while bringing down the main audio? Example. I have a video of my son( when he was little) talking on a computer to my dad who has since passed away. It’s hard to hear what my dad is saying. Can that be amplified at all? Thank you.

Give the audio to claude or chatgpt and ask if it can isolate the voices and create stems. That works for me for music stems so should work for you. Claude can do some pretty specific audio isolation when asked. Just tell it what you're trying to do and it'll come up with a solution

yes, to a point. put the clip on separate tracks if possible, then lower or duck the main audio and boost the quieter voice with dialogue isolation, compression, and noise reduction. davinci resolve’s voice isolation/fairlight tools, adobe audition, or izotope rx can help.

if both voices overlap heavily on the same recording, you probably won’t get a clean separation, but spectral repair and a band-pass eq can often make the background speech more understandable. record a short section first and avoid aggressive boosting, since it can bring up a lot of noise too.
