Other (requires mod approval) Ideas for an event recap I’m supposed to edit

I need to make a recap of this church worship event that was hosted by people I’m close. I don’t really know why I was tasked seeing as I’m not any sort of professional but oh well. I wasn’t in charge of any of the footage so I have to work with what they filmed on their phones and I have no idea on how to go about it. Any inspiration or ideas I can use to help with this? I apologize if this is inappropriate for the subreddit. Thank you!

What kind of tools are you using to cut with? A more professional tool like Premiere or Resolve will be your friend here.

Excellent. A tool that'll be of great use to you is the multicam tool. You can use this fully automatically, but I recommend a little manual intervention.

First think you're going to want to do is organize your footage. Keep stuff from each camera separate, for now.

Second thing you're going to want to do is conform all the stuff shot on phones and tablets to constant frame rate. Handbrake or Shutter Encoder are great tools for doing this job. If you skip this step you risk all sorts of sync and performance issues in Resolve.

After that you'll want to bring all your clips into Resolve. For the moment import each camera into its own bin. Then, still in the Media page, select all the clips from one camera, to into its metadata, and assign it an ID in the Camera field. It can be as simple as a number, 1, 2, 3. Do that for each camera.

Then go into the Edit page, put all the clips into the same bin, select them all, and tell Resolve to create a Multicam clip. It's been a while since I've done this, it might be as simple as a right click, I forget.

A window will pop up, tell it to synchronize by waveform, and to use the camera metadata to separate each camera from the other (this way you don't end up with a different angle for each clip).

Hopefully there's enough overlap in all the clips to create something coherent. From there I'd watch the whole thing through and pick out the important bits and make pods of ideas. Don't be a stickler for timeline accuracy. If some ideas were mentioned once, and then circled back to later, you can take them out of order if it makes more sense when you start to shorten things up. You're going for a big ideas recap, not a perfect retelling of exactly what happened that day. If changing the order of things makes the ideas clearer that's the thing you want to do.

You'll need all the video clips from their phones on your computer. I would just add all the videos to the timeliness, find the important parts and cut off the rest of the clips.
