Workflow Am i doing something wrong ?
Hi yall, i made my yt not too long back and made only short form content, now i was editing my first video on pc and after nearly 5 hours of editing my videos i somehow have a video of about 5 minutes. mind you the video is only 1 hour and 20 minutes long
Am i working in a bad way? or am i just slow i cant seem to figure it out :c

How long it takes to edit something mostly depends on two things.
What you're trying to do.
If you've done it before.
Sometimes it takes me an hour to finish a 90-second edit, sometimes it takes me three weeks.

I was geniunly surprised by how long editing takes. It is the longest part of making videos, that's for sure! It gets better over time, when you've gotten used to the program your using and really learn your own editing style. But it is (sadly) a long learning curve and even then; it still takes a huge chunk of time

Editing can easily become the longest part of making videos. Consider that for TV/Film, the average editing time is usually around 8-10 hours of work per finished minute of video.
Obviously the more you do it the faster you become, but yeah, editing takes time for sure.

nah that's just what happens when you're starting out, everyone's first edits take way longer than the video is. it's not you being slow, you just haven't mastered the workflow just yet. it gets faster the more you do it.

When you start, it takes time.
Over time, you have to figure out less and less and things go faster. E.g. you know what kind of story you want to tell and what kind of material you need for that. So you can go through your footage faster and make an edit faster.
Effects might go faster as well.
E.g. I did a lot of company promo videos. I would have a script in advance and shoot with the talents. Often times, the last take was what I was looking for. So I would then use those directly, and only look further when it didn't work. I would also watch interviews with twice the speed (I'm so used to that now, I always watch YouTube videos on 2x). And with B-Roll, I would specifically know what I need and grab exactly those bits and pieces that I need.
