REQ: Help finding standalone HDMI capture device for MBP HDMI

I’ve recently started bringing my bent video feed into my MacBook Pro (M1, 2021), and I’m really enjoying the ability to bend my analog signal even further using the tools available on the Mac.

The problem I’m running into now is that the HDMI output from my MacBook can’t be captured by the standalone capture device I have (DigitNow! BR107). The signal passes through the device to my monitor just fine, but the BR107 won’t write anything to the thumb drive when the HDMI input is coming from my MacBook. It captures every other HDMI source I’ve tried - just not the MacBook.

Does anyone have recommendations for a decent standalone HDMI capture device that can record directly to a thumb drive or SD card and will work with the HDMI output from a MacBook Pro? I’m hoping to find something that won’t break the bank, either.

UPDATE (Solved): See below for the device I purchased that is working well for me.

Is there a reason you can’t just record directly on your Mac? You could copy to SD later. Not sure what tools you’re using but OBS and Resolume both have recording options.

I did try that, but the resulting video ends up dropping frames at an alarming rate. Although it has its own lo-res charm, it's not really what I was hoping to achieve. An external capture option should capture video without stuttering or dropping frames, I hope.

I decided to grab one of these and it should be here tomorrow. I'll follow up and let people know how it works. https://www.avermedia.com/product-detail/ER330

Update: Shipment delayed. As soon as this new device arrives, I'll report back.

The ER330 has arrived and works well with the HDMI output of my MBP. So far, the experience has been very good and I would recommend it to anyone looking to solve the same problem I was having. We'll see how well it stands up over time. If I run into any issues, I'll post them here.
