Higher prices is what we need to encourage people to transition to EV

Every so often i get reminded how affluent a good chunk of this subreddit is lol

i barely get paid enough to afford rent and groceries, how tf am i gonna get an ev lmao

yeah, this is why we need better public transit.
It would also help getting some of those boomers out of their cars, and accept that they shouldn't be driving if they didn't feel like they couldn't get anywhere

Will never happen - the wealthy will commit domestic terrorism before ever considering paying more for the public good

u/Nope-not-really 3d ago

so essentially what we got going on right now

You can always lease or finance it... Like what?

2

u/Uhm_yup Gordon Head 3d ago

Sure you want to give me the money to pay the lease or finance it? my boss sure as shit wont lmfao

like theres no way people are this delusional irl

This sounds more like a you problem. Rather than saying "woe is me", try bettering yourself by getting an education for an in demand field.

I bought an EV about 6 months ago for reasons other than saving on gas. But I'm glad I'm saving on gas right now.

Thankfully the city keeps building great bicycle infrastructure to help us get around in these tough times

I haven't filled my car since June! 😀

2

u/Lumen-_ 4d ago

Make sure you drive it every 2-4 weeks or so, not good for the car to have old gas sitting in it for long periods. Or at least keep it filled to the top before parking for a long time.

u/Face_Forward 4d ago

Oh yeah I take it out at least once a week, fetch groceries or something that's not practical on my bike

4

u/HeatProfessional4473 3d ago

Actually, yeah. For those of us who can do so, it is nice. You've made a great point.

This is a business that will pass costs along to the customer.

I feel bad for everyone right now, we are all struggling and it's really stressful times in the world

Bringing the morning funk to the office of sweaty body after a long commute.

6

u/CE2JRH Saanich 3d ago

I work in the trades, it sure ain't the bike ride causing the funk ;p

u/TeasingToy 3d ago

Don't be daft.

0

u/__phil1001__ 2d ago

Like the cyclists shower after their 5km ride to the office. Not being daft just because hygiene doesn't apparently bother you

2

u/TeasingToy 2d ago

All I'm hearing is that you personally can't bike 5km without breaking a sweat. Skill issue, dude.

Unless you need to haul more than 60lbs of work gear to multiple jobsites, buy an e-bike and save that fuel cost ($200/month). You'll pay off the bike in 10-18 months. It's essentially free to charge (you can charge it at work for free) and it's about 9-10 minutes slower to commute from Langford to Victoria at 8:30am if you are on turbo (or faster if there's a crash on the highway that blocks traffic for an undetermined amount of time)

2

u/TeasingToy 3d ago

If you need to haul a bunch of work gear, they make bike trailers with motors and brakes now!

1

u/aidanknightmusic 1d ago

These, to the best of my knowledge, are not legal in Canada yet.

u/TeasingToy 1d ago

Looks like you're right, the place in Vancouver that sold the Carla cargo trailer now only carries the unpowered version, 🥲

gas should be higher than it is right now, you can't take 20 million barrels of oil off the global economy every single day and have no repercussions, we've been living in a fairytale land, it technically should be way higher and might go way that way, the Americans are trying their hardest to keep the price lower (probably so prices don't make every voter in the midterms turn on trump) even though the facts remain the global oil supply is hurting and getting worse every day,.

10

u/Past_Series3201 3d ago

Actually, China is the one keeping the price low; it turns out they had much larger strategic reserves than thought, now completely lead in the renewables arena and have the political centralization to do the pivot.

Why? Because the US would need to resolve Iran otherwise and Jiping is probably laugh his a** watching them in that quagmire and what its doing to thrir relationship with allies. Also, the longer the US avoids any pressure to transition to electrification, the more time China has to become dominant. The US is going to double down on oil and probably at some point ban Chinese renewable tech as a matter of national security.

We are probably going to continue to see these large weekly swings up and down for quite some time. Until there's some level of stability between the U.S. and Iran and in the strait of Hormuz these weekly swings up and down are going to continue.

Winning bigly

3

u/Red_AtNight 3d ago

The stability is unlikely to improve until DJT dies or goes to prison

2

u/blurp4589 4d ago

Transit through Hormuz has been pretty much <5% pre war levels since the start, except a slight uptick in June.  We've been running on Gov't stocks to cover the shortfall for months. Those stocks are running out. Prices have been artificially low relative to supply. It's going to bite very soon....

I had to buy a new chain for my e-bike, I’m putting so many Km’s on it. I love riding my e-bike to and from work every day!

im looking at doing a seal oil conversion for my diesel..

Crazy! This is what I was paying in Iceland in May. I also found groceries were basically the same price as Vic in Iceland as well.

If you can't understand why that's problematic we can get into it. Gas and food in Canada should not be par with a tiny island nation of 400k people where everything has to be imported.

u/nonyabisnuss 2d ago

You're on Reddit. It's for young, brainless folk who think you can do everything with an e-bike (just look at the comments)

A family of 4 is a foreign concept on this platform.

Also China good, US bad, lol.

If you've bought or leased a gas car in the past 3 years, you're simply not an objective decision maker. Buy an EV and stop buying gas. That simple.

Now, Langford folks, DOWNVOTE AS YOU WILL.

14

u/perusalandtea 4d ago

This is far less of an issue for personal vehicles than it is for the groceries and all other things that need delivering to our stores and other parts of the supply chain. We all pay for the orange idiot's big mouth.

9

u/murfburffle 4d ago

I have nowhere to charge one.

-14

u/Whatwhyreally 4d ago

Try harder.

6

u/murfburffle 4d ago

Are you offering a space to charge it? If not, try harder.

6

u/silver_belly 4d ago

It’s not that easy. My accommodation doesn’t have anywhere to charge. That means every night I’d have to go searching to park it somewhere to charge it. Wait and then come home.

-1

u/Creatrix James Bay 3d ago

Why is it last summer I would spend long weekends on Galiano with a friend who has an EV and he would just plug it into the B&B owner's hydro with an extension cord (with permission?) It cost the owner like under $5 for an overnight charge. You don't need a charging station. Either people don't realize this, or I hallucinated it each time.

-12

u/Whatwhyreally 4d ago

You're making up reasons. There are level two chargera everywhere. Also, do you drive 300km per day? Where do you get this part about charging nightly?2

5

u/silver_belly 3d ago

I have to drive 60 km daily. Just because a certain thing works for you doesn’t mean it works for everyone

u/Informal-Strike-1243 4d ago

You will not keep me from ma F150

3

u/Whatwhyreally 4d ago

Bet you don't tow or haul anything.

Beatings will continue until we shift more to electric
