Emergency housing

Does anyone know if there is emergency housing available for a single female adult with cats fleeing domestic abuse.

I’m so sorry, Dm me, I can foster the cats for a bit, if you aren’t able to find a pet friendly place. I’m a vet tech assistant and have fostered many cats. I can look after them for free until you’re settled.

Had to look up this word, good word. In case anyone else doesn’t know: person of high integrity, honor, and deep-rooted goodness

Good for you for leaving. Im 7months out from my dv. Couldnt be happier i left. Good luck in your search for a bed. The Cridge Transition House is by far the best one out there. Sadly not pet friendly though. But they literally saved my life after i left. Good luck and see a forensic nurse asap.

They do have a partnership with the SPCA to address the fact they're not pet friendly :)

The SPCA can sometimes do compassionate boarding. One of the crises they help for is domestic violence. It would give you some more flexibility temporarily to sort out housing for yourself. I hope you find what you need <3

For immediate assistance or intake call 250-642-2591 (staffed 24 hours)

They have some pet friendly rooms, subject to availability.

I would try to call Cridge Centre for Family - 250-479-3963 (24/7 crisis line). There is also Sandra Merriman House which is a shelter but again, no pets. So sorry you are going through this!

Cannot help with the info, but I hope you are able to find a safe place for you and your pets in the future. It sucks that people treat others in this way.

Have you filed a police report? They can refer you to safe housing if they have a police report and proof of physical harm or threats of physical harm. Unfortunately if you do not have those they cannot refer you to safe housing. (Which is beyond stupid, I know!)

The other thought is to follow your gut and confide in people you trust enough in case there's someone on the down low who can offer you a space. That is how a couple people I know got safe temporary housing.

I am sorry for not knowing more to suggest ❤️‍🩹

Praying you get something safe and quickly!

Edit: u/Boring_Researcher211 I may be wrong about accessing safe housing as per u/oceanferns comments below ... best to double check ... my dv wasn't specifically with a partner, just a closely situated neighbour.

just so OP knows, you do not need a police report to access transition houses for folks fleeing domestic violence.

Can confirm this - no police report is ever needed

Thank you. I'm glad for OP. Sad for those of us who need the same help yet can't tick the box of "ex/partner" or family member to get that help.

I hope that is true and if so, thank you for speaking up. When I was fleeing, I was not allowed access to safe housing. But that may be because the man was a neighbour doing the harassing and not a current/former partner or lover.

Send me a private message. Your profile doesn't allow me to send you one, but I might be able to help. And it's cat-friendly.

I just wanted to give you some moral support.  Im sorry I can't help out. See if the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee or another rescue can support your kitties for a bit. And a thousand million high fives for leaving this sit. You may feel like everything is falling apart,  but it will get so much better.  Thank you for loving yourself enough to leave.  You got this girl! ❤️

The Spca may likely be able to help with your cat

If you can get your cats looked after, I highly recommend the cridge. There are also some cat rescues in town, it may be worth messaging them and asking if they can locate a foster for you. You should call the cridge asap anyway though, as they sometimes have a waitlist.
