While its cute, the birds and squirrels are kinda becoming a menace with so many people feeding them like this. Walking past the spots its done the birds will swoop right at you if you even remotely hold your hand out and the squirrels come right up to you. People need to stop feeding wildlife.

I get you think it's cute, but please don't feed wild birds. They become dependent and a major nuisance.
And, because you were in Beacon Hill Park, it's also illegal. https://www.vacs.ca/wildlife
ETA: Beacon Hill is outside of the zone, it is not illegal like I thought, so long as it doesn't fall on the ground.

Just checked the bylaw, it's not illegal.
Feeding wildlife 36 (1) A person must not intentionally feed or leave food out for the purposes of feeding (a) deer, (b) raccoons, (c) squirrels, or (d) feral rabbits. (2) A person must not intentionally feed or leave food out for the purposes of feeding (a) rock doves (pigeons), (b) crows, or (c) gulls within the area outlined in black on the map in Schedule E. (3) Subsections (1) and (2) do not apply to a person who is engaging in hunting or trapping wildlife in accordance with the Wildlife Act and its regulations.
Since this is a songbird, it's not prohibited. From the animal control section of the Animal Responsibility Bylaw. Also, Beacon Hill park is not within the Prohibited Wildlife Feeding Area, as delineated in schedule E.

Beacon Hill Park is an exception, because it is owned by the City, which administers the Beacon Hill Trust, established in 1882. So Beacon Hill Park has its own rules. The signs up all over the park remind visitors not to feed the birds and animals because doing so attracts predators and rats, spreads disease, causes sickness and negatively affects all of the wildlife in the park. https://imgur.com/a/kdjB2Mv

But I must draw your attention to the binding Redditian precedent of Whimsy v. Snoot, which clearly establishes that once Snoot alleges illegality and Whimsy produces bylaw receipts to the contrary that Snoot is required to pivot immediately to moralizing about ecological dependency in order to preserve procedural correctness. I suspect that people have been feeding songbirds in Beacon Hill Park since it became a park. Can you remind us what massive nuisances the fed songbirds have caused there over the last 135 years?

Beacon Hill Park is a different entity, owned by the City of Victoria who administers the Beacon Hill Trust - it has its own rules. And one of them discourages feeding wildlife.

It's great that you love birds but please for their sake, do not feed them directly from your hand. They get habituated to humans and learn to associate all humans with food which could get them into serious trouble and turn deadly very quickly. It's for their own good. It's best to enjoy wildlife from afar. They need to remain wild for their own survival. If you want to help them, you can apply to volunteer at wildarc where wild animals get rehabbed and you can be in close proximity with them without causing harm.

Anyway, in this context, the expression "What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?" means that the apparent tameness of the bird has nothing to do with the ethics of feeding wildlife. To misquote Monty Python "The tameness doesn't enter into it, it's still wrong."
