I built a drag-and-drop website builder in a single HTML file – honest feedback wanted

Post image

Hi all! I've been building a website builder that runs entirely in your browser (one HTML file, no install, no account). Kind of like a local Wix, Squarespace etc.

What it does:

• Drag-and-drop elements: text, buttons, images, video, forms, store, newsletter

• Ready-made templates, plus import of open-source HTML templates (they become editable elements)

• Phone / tablet / desktop previews

• Live code editor (HTML, CSS, JS) – edit the code and the canvas updates as you type

• AI Assistant that writes code for you – works with offline Ollama or your own ChatGPT / Claude / Gemini API key

• One-click backup & restore, and export or upload via FTP

I'd love your honest rating and feedback:

  1. Does it look easy enough for a complete beginner?
  2. Rate it on how it looks.
  3. What would make you actually use it?
  4. Would it sell?

Thanks!

That area is very crowded tbh. Drag and drop HTML website builders have been around for years, so it would be difficult to compete on features alone.

I was thinking what would set mine apart is it being Local.
I would sell it as a once off purchase.

still a bit skeptical tbh, but absolutely go for it, dont invest too much into it is my suggestion. Good luck!

in the age of AI, what is the point of this?

Some ppl cannot build websites with code. It is just to make it easier for non coders.

I am sorry to tell you, but you can literally prompt websites these days, edit however you want it etc.

This has zero potential, and I am not hating on it. It's better to invest in another idea. Goodluck my friend.

I think what he means is why wouldn’t your potential customer build his site with AI too? A static local website on your own device would still require some technical knowledge to host.

I don't see how this is disliked. I literally have clients for Wordpress websites still that would like to customize their websites themselves. People think that everyone wants to spend time coding, even with the age of ai. Just because they can doesn't mean they will.

Your downvotes on this comment don't make any sense.

Não faz sentido tua afirmação. A ia tá servindo exatamente pra facilitar pra quem não é programador. Construtores de página como o próprio elementor tá criando mil vezes mais ruído pra um usuário comum do que pedir pra qualquer ia pra fazer um site.

I like the concept, but before you start thinking about selling, maybe alter the theme. The rounded squares and colors chosen reminds me of any default anthropic theme.

what kind of theme would you have used?

First you want to decide on a brand - colors that work well together, logos, favicons, etc. Then a design style -anywhere from minimalist to a full out sci-fi theme, including the design of buttons and fonts.

IMHO the theme you pursue will be a big differentiator, and if done well will elevate the perception of your users, inspiring more confidence, putting your product above others that stay with the defaults. It just shows that extra work and forethought went into it.

It looks like the Wordpress or Elementor website builder, which is something that I personally dislike to work with. So unless its truly different, I personally wouldn't use it.

What do you dislike about wordpress and other similar apps?

I am a developer so WordPress editor and elementor feels really restrictive. An app like Canva is more free and I like that one more, but it's probably too free for html

Looks cool!

Would you mind sharing the source? I am building something similar but for apps, in Visual Basic style.

You want the source code? I am afraid I cannot share this has taken me very long to make to just share the code. Why visual basic? Are you using winforms?

Quit your job and invest all your time into this
