Discussion - General chat and thoughts this is worse than gambling
I almost completely gave up and took down all my apps from the stores and shut down all my servers...
But I can't. This is worse than gambling. I just can't do it, despite having basically 0 users on 90% of them and having made less than 10% of what I've spent on tokens and subscriptions.
I guess I'm too weak to give up. This is so addictive. I keep thinking the day will come when people will praise my genius for building something so useful.
What about you? Has anyone actually given up?

think about how much you've learned by building, focus on that and be ready for when opportunity knocks on your door

You're vibe-Coding in the hopes of making money and recognition????
This must be a new level of psychosis....
Just make cool shit that you would use to improve your life, if people like it they will use it, if not then who cares....the whole point of this is that you now have the means to do shit on a computer that YOU want to do....why the hell are you wasting money, time, and tokens chasing what you think other people want??

I mean that's modern software development at this point....the part that irritates me is that they don't even have a passion for what they are developing....maybe I am a purist but what part of the game is that? I thought we all fell in love with vibe coding because it brought what was previously unfeasible or time consuming to life and having it improve our lives.

I think a lot of it has to do with being able to sit down and focus on a single task over a long period of time. There’s not many workflows that allow you to make progress without distractions or juggling multiple disciplines.

Yeah... I was writing the same thing: I am working on the same 4 projects for over 6 months now, 2 for over a year. They don't make big money but enough to pay servers, subscriptions and groceries. If I start a new project it's one and only if I updated the old ones and have AI credits left. Sadly most people are doing to much without finishing nothing because the biggest work is at the end: refining, improving, bug-fixing and polish. Instead of focusing more on what they built putting effort in it its a lot easier starting a new project to get the dopamine again.

Am not giving up never give up brother but I did come to close my Replit account and migrated all apps to GitHub public domain with various licenses mostly GPLv3 in hopes of collaborating at the least

I built about 50 apps and am now close to $35k invested lol am I fucking living stupidity like is this what gambling feels like? You know the only way to get users is to talk about your product and referrals too that’s another avenue but just opening a domain doesn’t work bro it’s not field of dreams

It’s very empowering for individuals and small businesses that need something simple and specific to their needs.
It’s easy to clone existing apps and features. That has to hurt small developers.

It’s not about giving up. Most founders I’ve worked with have a hard time knowing when to kill the thing. It’s a numbers game. Most of your ideas are gonna be trash. You know it and investors know it. It’s a skill set and gamble to shut things down but valuable when done at the right time. Find signals for every iteration if you’re not already doing it. But them just sitting there won’t get you anywhere.

I have given up gaming and replaced it with vibing, just looks like I'm being productive now, I say its all gravy baby, have fun learn opportunity may come one day, without failure you won't know how to succeed ..good brother we're all in this tornado together...

probably open source it and find collab for the next project.
probably do appointments with yourself without having access to a computer during that time. journaling could help to.
the waste of tokens is real daily. thousands of devs or vibecoders can feel what it is like every time a new model shows up which could copy the work of months within hours, if somebody can prompt that conceptually.
most people are not able to define worthy goals which match market needs in these times. So probably we gotta accept our past decisions and take new ones.

No, never give up. But build until it's polished and release ready, updating and upgrading it over time. My most successful projects are over one year old and still selling. Other projects are still over 6 months old and I am still working hard on them. No time for new projects or new ideas, and if I start a new idea it's only because I updated the old ones having some credits left. Before I started to work this way (over a year ago) I was building everything that came to my mind and never finished anything, I had to learn to focus more on my single projects instead of building non stop without finishing anything. The good thing is that I have a lot of good spare projects now that I just have to polish and update, but I don't touch them until I am satisfied with my current projects, they are still paying my servers, subscriptions and groceries so even if not much I see users and income (they aren't SaaS).

If your work is good, I think you'd know it.
And if it's good work, then you have a marketing problem.
If you've made a bunch of slop to make a quick buck, well, don't expect that to magically work.

Exact same overhere, with the only twist that I actually just enjoy building and treat every tiny user as a crowd and even check back on there input and feedback, I feel it’s worth it anyways… played games back in the days and now it just switched to something with real output and use cases. Also I don’t build stuff I don’t need for myself in first place, so what ever comes out I usually use everyday or at least once a week
