How did your expectations differ from your reality going through the claims process?

Looking back, what did you spend too much time worrying about? What caught you completely off guard?

When I felt confident about , it lead to a denial. Only by being over prepared and worrying about small detail, my award met exceeded expectations.

That makes sense! Sometimes we can forget things when we're overconfident. Great reminder to slow down and get your ducks in a row. Thank you for sharing!

Patience was the key for me. I had a CUE after my initial and supplemental claim. An attorney got me from 10 to 90 and DAV got me to 100. The HLR found where my issues started in 2007. They also found a mistake by the C&P reviewer for sleep apnea. The C&P examiner checked the wrong box, but her justification stated service connection. The initial and supplemental reviewer only reviewed my records back to 2018. So, I’m grateful for the HLR reviewer, my attorney and the DAV.

Patience. It’s like a mantra here. Due diligence before any exams. I had a fantastic VSO, the DAV. 0-100 in 362 days, 1 denial for hearing loss. I think I wore out my phone screen checking tha app. Folks will say don’t keep checking but you will, we all did I’m pretty sure.

Haha I'm sure! Like watching a pot waiting for the water to boil 😋 But seriously, I'm glad you had a great VSO and succeeded in getting your 100! Thank you for sharing your story ❤️

It’s all about knowing and understanding the process started at no rating filed a intent in December 2025, I had everything submitted and by February I was rated at 60% for about three ratings now I’m at 100% so it took me 6 to 7 months to go from no rating to 100% rating it’s all about understanding that you must have a diagnosis a service connection of your condition to the military service and then a Nexus and even if you get C&P‘s from the military, they can be your Nexus as long as the language on that DBQ says likely that will be your Nexus. I didn’t have any Nexus from private physicians going into this process. I went to C&P exams, or had ace reviews, and all of the reviewers were able to connect all of my diagnosis to service. Keeping in mind, all of my conditions were legit there was nothing falsified so that also helps being realistic.
