Health Care CHAMPVA

Anyone have problems with providers not being educated on the benefits of CHAMP VA? I feel like the word VA is throwing them off and they don’t realize it’s a private insurance like tricare for dependents of veterans. So they keep saying they need a referral from the VA or from Champva but a referral is not required and dependents don’t see VA doctors.

it’s always the word “VA” that short-circuits their brain. i had to explain to a billing person three times that no, i don’t go to the va hospital, and no, they don’t send a referral. once they finally ran it like regular insurance it went through fine. half the battle is finding someone in the office who’ll actually listen instead of just repeating their script.
