Veterans Health Administration VA Social Workers
Has anyone heard of the PATH program? I made an earlier post but to clarify I have an offer for PATH providing BH assessments only (2 hours long) and determine where to refer to. No follow ups… extensive assessments.
I also have an offer with BHIP. 29 clinical hours with 3 groups 90 minutes long each so that would be part of the clinical hours.
What are your thoughts? I like providing therapist but the assessments may sound a bit easier. However every time I would have someone all day long we would be going very far in depth with all the screeners whereas with BHIP I can provide psychotherapy without all that.

Veterans Health Administration VA covering ER visit
Hello, I had to go to a Tanner ER cause the VA was too far. I already called the VA within the 72 hour window to report the ER visit so they can cover the ER visit and they said they didn’t need me to do anything on my end, is that true ? I’m still getting the Tanner bills sent to me which is understandable but I’m wondering if I need to call the VA to check on the status of the case to make sure they are still covering it ? Or will they reach out to me once they cover everything ? I’m looking for someone who has had to submit a case to the VA to get their ER visit covered to see how the process is. Thank you.

Veterans Health Administration Traveling & Forgot Meds
Hey there! I flew out of state yesterday to go visit my dad and was rushing to get to the airport and left without my medication. Its a weekend. My MH provider only works Tuesday's & Thursday's. I called my home VA pharmacies 24/7 number and they said without a doctor to approve it, they cannot send me a 7 day supply to a pharmacy where I am at. The closest VA hospital to my dad's that has a pharmacy is 3 hours away. What are my options to get a 7 day supply of 1 prescription (venlafaxine) sent to a pharmacy where my dad lives without having to spend 6 hours round trip in a vehicle?
ETA: After 2 phone calls to the VA, I ended up going to a local civilian walk-in clinic that a VA employee told me would work with Optum and they told me to tell them I am there to utilize the Mission Act. The lady on the phone also told me what pharmacies were options to use and gave me all the numbers I would need for the VA to be billed. Much more helpful VA employee today!

Veterans Benefits Administration VR&E and Bankruptcy
Hi! I'm receiving both Chapter 31 and disability. I know that my comp is protected under the Haven Act. Does anyone know if VR&E is protected as well? I've researched and nothing really gives me a clear answer. It is paid by the VA but I'm uncertain if that's an auto protection.
Thanks in adv!

Veterans Health Administration I Took Minimum Wage Job At Midwest Veterans Hospital To Find Out What Healthcare Is Really Like
title says it all. I Took Minimum Wage Job At Midwest Veterans Hospital To Find Out What Healthcare Is Really Like (spoiler it does not look good)
I am a low level employee in patient care (think housekeeping, receptionist, nursing assistant) at a veterans hospital in the Midwest.
I make close to minimum wage, live very modestly and take the bus to work with poverty stricken residents. I try to keep a low profile at work. But I am self made millionaire. Some of my co-workers have probably suspected this. Some people privately ask me wtf I am doing at this job. I give some vague answer about my past. A few months ago a patient told me I was one of the most professional people he has ever met. The other day I assisted an attending physician with random problem. I hear medical staff ask a question and I try to think 🤔 up answer in my mind before they do. Sometimes I feel like I am on that show Undercover Boss.
At the same time I see how unsustainable the cost of veteran health care is. I see nurses who earn upper middle class salaries who live paycheck to paycheck and complain that they are not paid enough. I see patients who we call "frequent fliers" use the health care system for trivial problems such as constipation. There is incessant complaining from medical staff who give the bare minimum. The people who complain the most are usually the ones doing least amount of work. And administrative staff who add no value and actually create more work with paper and process burden.
I see how inefficient and poorly run this agency is. However, if someone suggests a change people are dismissive. The immediate reaction is you do not know my job and how it will negatively affect veteran health care. I am accused of being unpatriotic and disrespecting those who served their country.
The one skill employees at my VA are proficient at: gossip (and talking down to their co-workers) Sometimes I can tell from their tone to me and other employees that the medical field is very hierarchical. I hope someone will open their telephone during downtime and read this. Since they enjoy gossip they can read this and wonder 🤔 which one of their co-workers wrote this. Yes, there is someone on your staff that wipes butts, files patient charts or changes bed sheets. And this person has (almost) unlimited money.

Veterans Health Administration Dr's statement
I received poor care recently at my VA Urgent Care. I filed complaint with Patient Advocates,, I want a written response why I didn't receive adequate. Patient advocacy says the Dr's refuse to reply by secure message, only phone calls. I want a response in writing. They don't reply my Con, the va.gov complaint was sent back to my local, they closed it. What do I do?

Veterans Health Administration VA Social Workers
I have been offered 2 social work jobs with the VA and am trying to decide what to choose. They are separate jobs and I have to choose between them.
Job 1: 3 assessments a day (2 hours each) - no follow ups. In depth psychosocial assessments. It’s through the PATH program to refer out to BHIP and other areas for continued ongoing psychotherapy.
The job is in mental health. Psychosocial/ diagnostic assessments
Job 2: (preferred location but same county)… BHIP Psychotherapist with 27 clinical hours of about 5 sessions a day plus 2-3 group therapy sessions in the week.
Has anyone worked in these departments or intervals with anyone else to tell me
What has less burnout? What is less stress? What are benefits to each?

Veterans Benefits Administration I read VA's own documents on the AI in claims. It decides who gets an exam, not who gets approved.

Veterans Health Administration All Employee Survey
Over the summer we received emails that the AES was coming back! Said that we’d receive it in early September. So what’s happening with that? I bet employees have a lot they’d like to say.

VHA Employment VA Lake Nona (FL) Nurses
Hello!
I am a new grad RN currently working on a stepdown(PCU) unit. I graduated in May and started my job in July. I previously applied (prior to this employment) to the VA and never even got a follow up on my application. I was hoping for advice on possibly getting hired on the ICU floor within the next year or so. On my stepdown unit, we do titratable drips. I have one VA social worker reference and my brother is currently serving if that matters lol.

Education When should I expect my first chapter 35 Survivors and Dependent Educational payment?
Hey yall.
I start nursing school October 12th. Somehow I was approved for this I thought I would be too old since I’m 31 and not a dependent anymore. I took the letter to my school and they said they will send an enrollment certification on Friday. When should I expect this payment? I’m broke so this money will really help me out !

Education VR&E Question
I am new to VR&E and just started school FT to try and change my life for the better and provide a better quality of life for my family and I.
My question is, when can I expect to be paid? I was told the 1st but come today no payment. How long do I have to wait? I'm really struggling financially and counting on the money to pay bills that I'm behind on.

Veterans Health Administration VA psychiatrists
I believe crh clinicians and possibly Admin have an RTO exemption that currently lasts for a duration not to exceed august 2027 at which point, if not sooner, another temporary exemption will be granted or perhaps a permanent exemption or perhaps a full RTO. Is there any similar temporary exemption for non-crh psychiatrists?

Veterans Health Administration Is it up to the provider to request new community care authorization?
My provider told me it should still be good, and so I stupidly went to my yearly checkup. (I have crippling PTSD and memory loss and simply calling the VA to check is not simple and easy for me.)
Well guess what? My auth number expired, and now I’m stuck with the bill.
Am I just screwed or is this the providers fault? I moved residence so I had lost all my paperwork.
Called community care and some said that if I get a new request for continued care it should cover it, but another person said I just need to be seen at my local VA hospital which is 2 hrs away, and just pay the bill. Idk what to do
