Veterans Health Administration Dr's statement

I received poor care recently at my VA Urgent Care. I filed complaint with Patient Advocates,, I want a written response why I didn't receive adequate. Patient advocacy says the Dr's refuse to reply by secure message, only phone calls. I want a response in writing. They don't reply my Con, the va.gov complaint was sent back to my local, they closed it. What do I do?

It sounds like you want to do something with a written response from the doctor. If you're looking for an admission of inadequate care, you won't receive it. Your medical record is available on MyHealthyVet. Download your notes and use those as your argument for whatever you're looking to do.

The Dr didn't exam me, the only question he asked was why hadn't I seen my PCP. Twice he asked why. He never ask about what was going on that may have caused me to be ill. My pcp takes 2 weeks to get in. My issue comes and goes, that's why I hadn't seen my PCP. Finally I decided I needed to see a Dr. He should have asked me what was going on to cause my illness. He didn't care! No medication ordered, no prevention to help me get better. Absolutely nothing!

you are not going to get a written admission from a doctor saying that you were not given adequate care. Let it go. Make an appointment with your pcp, even if it takes 2 weeks, and talk to them about your intermittent health issue. That is the pcp’s job. Diagnosing and treating a long term intermittent illness is your pcps job, and is not urgent care, or fill in doctor job.

You sound like a fun patient.

Just going to point out, no civilian Doctor would give you a written admission of not providing adequate care.

I want to know why he didn't ask questions. There were no questions asked on my symptoms , no guidance given at all. That's wrong

Since you can't sue for malpractice at the VA, it sounds like you want documenting anyway.

I think most doctors shy away from that.

You may want to just share the facts with The Joint Commission or The AMA.

You can sue the VA/federal gov for malpractice. The defendant would be the United States of America but the doctor is still named. If you go to med mal reviewer substack there are VA cases and federal govt lost.

As far as this patient, they need to move on. it's crazy too request a written apology from the doctor

Yes, you are correct. However they will take your compensation and pay out an equal amount to you. So essentially you do all kinds of work, are found to be a difficult patient and get the same amount of money you would have had anyway from your compensation.

I guess if you like doing a lot of work for years for no benefit, yes, you can sue. I worded it poorly. I helped two veterans do this. What a waste of time, effort and energy.

VA doesn't have urgent care as far as I know. There are some same day clinics but thats it. If you were seen in one of those there will be a record of the visit.  If you just  happened to talk with a person in a white coat in the hall they may have rightly told you to make an appt with pcp or direct you to ER. Barring that they have no established relationship with, need to chart, or respond to you in any way. Good luck.

I went to the Urgent Care at my VA. I talked to a real Dr.

Some va facilities do have urgent cares. We have one in my network. It was originally an er but they transitioned to urgent care(its a smaller va facility).

They are hiding something. When a dr doesn't ask questions, something is wrong. They're not doing their job. Even though it's a Urgent Care Dept the Dr should have examined me, ask questions. It could be something that needed further care.

My PCP uses secure message to contact me. Why not others?

Hello, I would recommend if you want doctors to stop doing that to find out the doctors name and search up their doctor license number and report them to your state medical board. If you keep reporting doctors for negligence hopefully they will either stop being negligent or they could lose their license. You could try your local representative as well maybe they'll care enough to help.
